I was wondering... has DC made any improvements on the Chrysler from the Plymouth, however small they may be??? For example, looking at a picture on their web site of the rear of a Chrysler Prowler, the bumpers look slightly different (besides the obvious deletion of "Plymouth" on the left rear). The exhaust tips also look thicker. Maybe its just me, I don't know. Anyone else?

Welcome to ProwlerOnline!

The only difference seems to be the hood badge, and the drivers side rear bumper that does not have the logo.

On Chrysler's website it says that the bumpers are "aluminum with a reaction injection molded urethane covering." Have the bumpers always been made like this? They sound like just the plastic to me.

Yes, the bumpers have always been that way, but in 2000 they changed the color to black.

Interestingly enough, my 2001 rides better than my 2000 did and the mud flaps don't seem to scrape as much (did not trim - original length). In fact I've gone over the same speed bumps and the front flaps have not scraped at all. Could be the experience of the first install. The ride is slightly better and that could be related to the change in shock manufacturer.

Just my observation -- Leon

Did your 2000 have Koni shocks? I knew the 2000 rode better and sat higher than the 99 & 97 Cats. But this is the first I have heard of a difference between the 2000 and 2001 Cats
I know DC changed to a different brand than Koni but I am not sure where in the production this took place.

Yes, my 2000 had the Koni shock. Maybe my 2001 was put together a little better. My 2000 was built Nov 1999 and the 2001 was built either Mar or Apr 2001 (can't remember the exact dates).

I have non adjustable Koni's on my Purple '99. I just got an '01, and there is no comparison in the ride. Incredibly better on the new guy. Also, I like the loudness switch on the radio, which my '99 does not have.

I wonder how adjustable Koni's would work on the 99. I don't recall anyone saying they have made this modification.
From what I hear just changing the tires to non run flats makes the 99 ride as good if not better than the 2000 and newer and you still get the low rider look of the 99's.

Rich- I have done that on my '99 Purple. I now use the Dunlop SP9000 & WOW a MUCH better ride. I did this just before leaving for Deadwood and had to make that turnaround. So I drove almost 1600 miles and would have dreaded it on the EMT's. The tread pattern on the SP9000's is really cool lookin.

Hey now, on the fender flaps scraping, I measured the distance between the lower edge of the fender to the ground, found a 1/2" difference. Guess which side scrapes over speed bumps...............so I cut the low side and no more problems. I hope DC tightened the tolorance on this part......................the fender is rivited to the brackets so its non adjustable.......................

Send em to me... if they don't want em I'll pay the postage Anyhow... having a Black 2000, a Black Tie, and Plymouth Orange just turned into a Chrysler Orange curtesy of California's Lemon Law... The Black rode harder then all the others... the black is noticebly slower too. The new Chrysler is as fast or faster then the Black Tie and has a dramatically smoother ride. The old Plymouth Orange was far bumpier and slower. I suspect the shock manufacturer and the manufacturer of the Torque converter have changed something internally. Lastly, the new Chrysler Prowler has off the line, a similar crack that caused the lemon law by back! Just without the other attendant problems.
