In this weeks edition of Automotive News there was this bit of information. There are a total of 900 Prowlers in Dealer inventory (including the factory) unsold. That represents about 163 days worth. (time it would take to normally sell them based on their statistics). Maximum inventory dealers want to see is usually 90 days. One Dealer offered me a NEW Prowler at COST. This is a good time to buy one but do not, REPEAT,not pay sticker. Negotiate from invoice up. Ask to see the invoice. |

If you recall, DC originally said they would quit making them after '01. As usual, greed set in. Looks like they probably had it right the first time. |

I still talk to people who think the Prowler lists any where from 65K plus. I think DC should do some advertising listing MSRP. Chevy is already advertising the upcoming SSR. I was at a car show recently and a dealer had a Mulholland there showing it off. They sales guy said they would not take a penny under 52K. As people looked at my Cat I heard comments of how expensive and over priced it is based on that Mulholland that was parked at the entrance. If I had to pay 52K I would not have been able to afford one either. If greed has killed the Cat, it is dealer greed not greed on DC's part. I also still think the PT Cruiser being released at about half the price, hurt Prowler sales. I have already seen PT cruisers customized to the hilt. I know of one in the area that already has 40K in his (including the original price) And the aftermarket is all ready almost unlimited as to what you can get. The PT Cruiser Club crowd is much more active in my area than the Prowlers ever have been. ------------------ This message has been edited by BeWare on 07-01-2001 at 07:35 PM |

quote: Dealers, not DC, are the ones that created that perception and they are the ones that need get the word out. But, I disagree that if people knew what they could buy one for sticker or less they would sell alot more. After all, did price stop any of us? Did we all pay way over sticker? I'd say NO to both. And while we may be a bright bunch, I suspect that there are tons of people that know they can be had for way less than sticker (as is the case with pretty much any car these days) unless they are living in a vacuum. No, the prowler is a specialty TOY car. It truly isn't an everyday (this is my only one) car and most can't afford the luxury that most in here have of having a TOY car to play with in addition to their everyday drive. It's a great car but, it's a TOY. [and by toy I mean no trunk, only seats two, potentially leaky top, etc. - same as a Panoz AIV or a Lambo] ------------------ Mods: 2001 Speed Yellow Porsche Cabriolet |
