Fine looking machine. How did the blue dots turn out? I bought some over a year ago but never installed them after seeing how the taillight assembly was two layers. Do they show up pretty well when you hit the brakes? Can you post a close up of the blue dots? Are they plastic or glass? Do they have the chrome bezel? thanks. |

Ed & Paul, The Blue Dots are Glass with Chrome Bezels. I purchased them at the local Flying J Truck Stop. They were installed by using a very sharp hole saw and drilling directly through the exterior surface on the lens. Drill through with constant light pressure applied and a very low R. P. M. speed. It is not necessary to disassemble any part of the taillight. Apply a small bead of Silicone Caulking around the bezel and set into the hole. The vertically mounted tail light bulb is approximately 3 inch's from the blue dot glass which will limit the overall brightness factor. Jay (Shimmer-man) Harris is working on a Fiber Optic Conduit line to increase brightness. They DEFINITELY contribute to the Prowler Retro theme and elicit many comments from the Rodders of the 50's. GO FOR IT, YOU WILL LOVE THEM!!!! ------------------ |

Be sure to silicone where the actual blue dot touches the silver ring too. Mine leaked thru there at first. Popped a fuse,, Glad to see others do the blue dot. Looks cool Ted. If your going to have bumpers, that's the best I've seen yet. Isn't someone working on a set of nerf bars?? Ted, thanks for the close ups and the info. I never thought of using a hole saw. We did remove a taillight assy. and I even priced replacements in case I screwed up or they didn't look good. I think the ones I got at Autozone are plastic with a bezel. I will have to look. There is a Flying J truck stop around here, but I can't remember exactly where it is. Everytime I see blue dots on a car, I say to myself that I am going to do it. The other thing that we worried about was the two layers of plastic and the distance of the light from the lens and the slant of the lens not being conducive to allowing it to show. Thanks again. Your car looks great. |

Everyone take a close look at the "close-up" shot of the blue lens. Notice the Pentastar in the center. Is that coincidental or what? Very nice accents for the Purple. I like it! ------------------ |

FYI again, a spade bit works great also, cuts right thru with no chipping. I did buy another lens set, cause I know some day a officer is going to be in a bad mood and write me up for it. Illegal in California, (highly). ------------------ This message has been edited by jd2ksilver on 06-17-2001 at 03:59 PM |

John, interesting about Calif. law. Az is the same, no blue dots, and they do write tickets here. Why is this so? What pi$$es me off is that a couple of local police departments have a 55 Chev and one a 60 Nova, D.A.R.E. to do DRUGS theme cars they take to schools, parades, and car shows, that you guessed it, have 'blue dots' on them. Go figure.......... |

Rich, I took the bumpers off myself and had an independent body shop paint them and clear coat them. They got paint from DC. I think it was $200 for the entire job and then $50 to have the Plymouth Prowler words painted by another guy who does pinstriping, etc. Shimmers were not available back then. I am sure you will get a variety of prices if you shop around but that is a ball park figure, for you. |
