I have aPurple 99 and i hate the color of the bumpers. I was thinking of painting them but not sure what color to use , black, purple? Has anyone seen a purple Prowler with matching bumpers or black bumpers and what do you think? |

Call me old fashioned but I like chrome bumpers. I wonder if there is a way to peel off the plastic coating and chrome the aluminum extrudes underneath... ------------------ |

BKG..... I have a 99 Black cat with the grey bumpers. We bought the 2000 black bumpers and switched them. Like it much better. ------------------ |

BKG, I have also seen the purple with purple bumpers and agree that it looks great. I painted the bumpers on my red Prowler gloss black and am extremely happy with the results. ------------------ |

I would go for the purple if I decided to keep the bumpers on. Cliff, might be some funky extrusions underneath. Who's gonna be the first to peel the cover? ------------------ |

Hey - Maybe someone in Texas should go to that junkyard and peel them off that dead kat? Then we could see what they look like underneath... ------------------ This message has been edited by cwatsonjr on 06-15-2001 at 12:00 PM |

I think all the kats would look great with black bumpers (if you choose to keep them on). Must admit, Bill Gallagher did one hellava job with his painted black bumpers on his 99 Red kat. Bill, you want to open a bumper painting service??? |

I received a couple emails about how I did the bumpers and I wanted to post how they were done: A friend and I used gloss black paint. I can't remember the details right now though. But what we did is we sanded down the bumpers and filled in the seams with bondo and then sanded them again. We sprayed the bumpers with the gloss black paint and let them sit for 2 days in the booth. We then started to wet sand them, using 600 then 2000 grit. After sanding, we buffed them and then went back and sanded them again, hitting any perfections we missed previously. Then buffed again. We then put the bumpers back on the car and hit them one more time with the buffer. We did the sanding/buffing process about 4 times on each bumper. When done, the bumpers had a high gloss black/mirror finish. In total, it took about 2 weeks to from start to finish, but it was well worth it. Total cost was about $70 ($100 if you include the beer involved). ------------------ |

If you paint them black they are going to be noticeable, if you paint them purple they will blend in with the rest of the car. Do you want the bumpers to be noticeable and stand out or do you want them to blend into the background? I say purple. jomo |
