Just watched TNN and they had a show by Car and Driver on the Prowler. Wow, there was blood shed. and most of all, they said you can buy one MSRP, NOW, so you people that paid to much......paid to much, thinking the car would go up in value.
This Press didn't help the sales at ALL. Btw, I STILL LOVE MY PROWLER. Have a great day. ------------------ |

I've been hanging around this site since accidentally coming upon Prowler Alley at last years Woodward Dream Cruise. I used to post that I was a FPO, future Prowler owner. But I must admit, the trunk space issue is just that, a real issue for me. I drive an SLK now, and with the top up I can travel to places like Woodward with my softside luggage, a couple of electric guitars and an amp to plug'em into. You guys have told me I can barely fit a jacket in the trunk of a Prowler. At $40K, I am not that interested in investing another $4-5K for a trailor. And even if I was I'm not that excited about pulling a trailor every time I want to pack a picnic lunch! So I guess maybe I am not a FPO after all. Maybe they are just for rich folk who have multi car garages and large inheritances. I don't know... Mike |

When I purchased (for much more then MSRP) my 2000 silver in January of 2000 the dealer in Idaho told me that with the right miles ? I would be able to resell it for what I paid. I still can't believe I fell for that. I must say though it was alot of fun while it lasted! |

OK lets all test drive that 34 Ford street Rod (or some alternative unusual car that one might buy). Lets see, it is not really all made of steel, but plastic, might even be a kit!.Hmmmmmmmm...Not reliable? Oh the air isn't real cold, or no air at all. There are no antilock brakes, too bad, that passenger power window quit and the shift linkage is a little wiggly. It is still leaking oil damn it. Spent $70,000 grand and a guy offered 25! Come on guys-gals, you know why you bought the most unusual, coolest, most unique car ever mass produced. Yeah right, gee wiz my golf clubs don't fit, I can't get 45 bags of groceries in it. Go buy a mini van and get on with your life. If you bought a Prowler to make money, carry baggage, etc. than you failed miseribly. If you bought it because you could'nt stand not having and driving that original Purple automobile from Automobile Design Heaven, then your are smiling right now and you know why that Silver (best color) Prowler is in your garage right now. Sorry that I went overboard with all this crap about the NEGATIVE aspects of the Prowler. ------------------ This message has been edited by OhioSilverCat on 06-09-2001 at 06:59 PM |

well a magizine like car and driver, will not give you the perspective that you all see the car in. They look at the car as a car that someone drives to work(as some do) and back. They look at the size of the trunk, and ammenties. What does a prowler not have abs brakes? (guess the viper gets a thumbs down for no abs) Race cars do not have abs brakes. Why? Because abs brakes will NOT stop you faster!!! Abs brakes are intended to keep the car manuverable in hard braking conditions. Car and Driver will test a civic in the same test that they test a prowler, what a joke. This is not a car that just anybody will buy. The buyer of this car is a coniseur of autos and vintage cars. Just like posted above this is a vehicle that is driven by someone that has the ideals of a old car, but yet doesn't want to work on one everyday to keep it running. This car is a piece of history, chrysler made a bold statement by building this car and take it as that. So don't let articles , magizines, or anyone that has no clue of what this car is about tell you any different. btw i checked www.caranddriver.com clicked on classic cars they have the civic as a classic car a few months back, so theres the perspective that they are looking at . No Clue!!! ------------------ This message has been edited by Lance.d on 06-09-2001 at 07:23 PM |

I just watched the same show. No matter how many "bad" things they had to say about the Prowler, in the final scene of the broadcast, the host pulled up in a Prowler and said "I have about another hour of runnin' around gettin' stared at to do" and had the biggest smile on his face I have ever seen. (I watch this show regularly). Then he punched it and pulled away. Even with some stupid complaints ("hair gets messed up"-IT'S A CONVERTIBLE!!) he still was having more fun driving a Prowler than probably almost anything he's driven. ------------------ |

hey now, some people just don't get it and never will. If not haveing a trunk keeps someone from buying a prowler, its not for them. My trunk holds my N20 and propane tank just fine. As for how it handles, its a dream for me. As for stoping, mine stops just fine. And as for power....................hehehehehehehe! ------------------ |

Sorry you feel that way Mike. I make about $34,000 a year, have a Sport Trac (which I drive daily) and love my Prowler. No trunk (throw it on the side), no abs (learn to brake), poor visibility (take the mirror out ), no power (do what some have done-sc,n20,etc), hair messed up (put the top up). There is nothing I would have right now that would make me change my Prowler. It shakes, it rattles but it ROCKS!!!!! ------------------ |

Isn't this the same publication that gave the Ford Escort, the title "Car of the Year" award when it first came out? I don't own the cat for practicality, I own it because it's "one man's junk is another man's treasure" |

I'm not rich, don't have any inheritance, do have a 2 car garage - and we love our Prowler. As for antilock brakes - I learned to 'antilock' the brakes with my foot pulsing the brake pedal, so I don't miss that on the Prowler. Wind blowing my hair - I love it! My wife puts her hair in a pony tail braid, and wears a cap - things we learned to do on our cross country Harley trips. Terrible Visibility - no problem, we always have the top down. No trunk space - I travel light, so this is no problem. Learned to travel light for business trips; always used one small overhead carry-on bag (even for overseas trips). Motorcycling teaches one to travel light - never have pulled a trailer. For us, the fun of driving the Prowler outweighs features it doesn't have - but if it had all these features - then it wouldn't be a Prowler, would it? |

Just saw the car & driver here on TNN this morning... I'm not sure he said anything that wasn't true.... So what. I agree with his last two statements... 1) This car gets more stares than any car on the road today at any price... still after being out for five years... 2) I gota ride around for another hour to get stared at... By the way, it was an orange Prowler... Actually, you can pack a lot more into our trunk than he implied... I taped it while we were having lunch & my wife (Karen) looks over at me toward the end of the segment & says "you sure you want to tape this"... Yea, I sure do... ------------------ |

I didn't watch it and obvously I didn't miss much. Who gives a darn if some talking head doesn't like my car. I bought it for my enjoyment, not his. I was out enjoying it instead of watching TV. I wonder who had the most fun, him or me? |

Im with you ED. My wife and I were out enjoying our prowler on a most glorious Sunday drive at the beach where we live. So who cares if they don't like the prowler? In fact I just thought of something interesting. I never really cared too much for Car and Driver magazine and now I know why. * they have too many advertisements * they have poor writers * I rarely agree with their opinions * They are biased toward foreign cars * and they do tests that are rediculous However, For those of us who already own prowlers, his statements make no difference, except that his salary is directly related to sales of a magazine that only makes money if they sell copies of said magazine. If we don't buy copies, then I guess we will have the final word there won't we? Takerlight |

Just for comparison...Let's see how far Plymouth has come since the first Model Q rolled off the assembly line. Since I have a Model Q, I'll do my own test. 1. Car doesn't stop at all, No ABS: Well, the '28 has hydraulic brakes (first year for them). ABS? They didn't have a clue. But it was way better than the mechanical braking systems of the time. 2. It doesn't go, under powered. Same story here too. 4 cylinder with 47 HP. 3. A multitude of parts stolen from the "parts bin". Another common theme. The "Q" was based on the 1927 Chrysler Model 52 and used many common parts. 4. No truck space. What do you know. My '28 is a 2-door sedan. It doesn't even have a trunk! 5. terrible visibility. The rear window in the '28 is smaller than the Cat's and it has no outside mirrors. 6. Your hair gets blown in new ways like never before in this convertible. Well, it isn't a convertible, but the windshield cranks up and blows everything in the car around. 7. handles terrible. No power steering. Corners terrible. Henry Ford said the same things back then that Car and Driver says now. But, the Plymouth managed a pretty good showing during its lifetime. The "Q" was as innovative then as the Prowler is now.

Sassy, I disagree wholeheartedly. These guys make a name for themselves by doing something outrageous to stand out from the crowd. They figure any press is good press. His editor will think everyone reads his column. Think about stars trying to become stars that do outrageous things. How did Sharon Stone become a mega-star. The supposedly no undies routine in the movie. Jennifer Lopez and her dresses. Carmen Electra marries the biggest dip **** in sports and becomes more famous. If they don't do anything controversial they will not stand out and get their big break. If this guy agrees with everyone that the Prowler is a cool car, it is a big ho-hum. Did his article change your opinion? Do you care if he changes anyone else's opinion? I sure don't. That is just my opinion. |

quote: Wasn't meant as a parting shot or sarcasm. Plenty of people have stated on this forum that the Prowler is a 'toy' car, not meant to be a daily driver or 'go to the grocery' car. My SLK is my only car so it has to be everything. I can afford to replace my SLK with a Prowler, but not if it can't take me to the store or to my next jam session, that's all I'm saying. I can't afford one, too bad for me, I love the looks of'em. Mike |
