The last car I owned was a C5 vert. I considered it an expensive car to own due to insurance, tire costs, maintenance, etc.. What I want to know is how expensive or inexpensive is it to own a Prowler? |

A11 - Flameout and I finally agree on something Seriously, license plate tags were less than my Vette, insurance is way cheaper, gas mileage better, and more smiles per mile!!! That, says it all............ ------------------

What I really want to know is how expensive are repairs and maintenance. Like oil changes, and belts, etc. |

After all is added up, my Prowler is costing me less per month than my Corvette did. My monthly payment is higher (put no money down except for trade equity), but insurance dropped $200 a year, and the Prowler uses less gas. In the Vette, I was putting in 10 gallons every three days, in the Prowler I put in 7 gallons every three days. So with current gas prices here at around $1.70/gallon, that is a difference of $50 a month. Add in the difference of $16/month for insurance and then other expenses (oil changes, regular maitenance, fewer trips to the dealer to have things fixed ) and the Prowler becomes over all cheaper to maintain. I am replacing my rear tires soon at a cost of $450-$500. When I bought new tires for the Corvette, they cost me almost twice that amount. Other items of cost are washing and polishing the car, which would remain about the same as any other car. As for oil changes, I use regular oil as opposed to the synthetic in the Vette, so oil changes cost me $10 versus $50-$60 in the vette. So if you take that into consideration over 5 years, oil changes cost $100 versus, $1000 or so for the Vette. ------------------ This message has been edited by William Gallagher on 06-08-2001 at 08:50 AM |

Alex11-oil changes depend on the type of oil and filter you use and if you do it yourself or not. Sometimes I crawl under, nmost of the time I dont. Cost me 30 bucks at my friends Mobil station for grease , oil, lube, filter.. I do it at 5-6 k intervals.(mobil 1) belts and stuff I havnt done and wont have to for a while. All other repairs should be under warranty if you bought withen the time period to cover. ------------------ |

I am not worried about the cost of an oil change, I just want to be an informed buyer this time. I bought my vette used and had alot of problems with it, some not covered under warranty. The clutch went out $$$, the top leaked, the rear glass fell out, the mufflers fell off, the front quarter panels came loose and started flopping in the wind, etc... And then came the regular maintenance, tires, timing belt, insurance, gas, and it all cost a fortune. The price of owning the car was alot more than I had thought. It was a nightmare and I don't want to be in that situation again, that is hwy I want some info from Prowler owners. I am definately going to buy a brand new Prowler under warranty because the 2-4 grand you save buying used is just not worth it. Thanks for the info guys. |

I have my oil changed at the dealer and it is $24.00 for an oil and lube. Talk with your dealer and see if you can have the POA&PPC get a 15% discount on parts and labor. We have that at several dealerships in California. Insurance is cheaper. You also might want to consider the extended warranty and if you do shop around before so you can decide if you should get the extended warranty when you by the car or afterwards. Good Luck and I know you'll be happy with your choice. ------------------ |

Your basic out of pocket is for gas and oil which is not too bad. However, warning, the "add ons" can really get you. Everybody needs the basic mud flaps, curb feelers, racoon tail and Moons....then, the care and feeding of the babes you pick up along the way can really get you!!!! ------------------ |
