Has anyone ever thought about removing or gutting their catalytic converters on thier kat?? The way i see it our cars run so clean that i cant believe that cats are taking out all the emissions. So probably if you took the cats off your car it would still pass state inspection. Do you think there is any performance gain here?? On every car i have ever worked with it was always better to do away with the cats so why wouldnt it be now on our cats?? Tell me what you think..... ------------------ !!++Youngest Driving Prowler Owner++!! -Amsoil Engine and Tranny Fluid |

Ive been running without them for about 2 k miles now, along with the Paxton and gears. Have not run a G tech test yet. But to be honest, I can't say I notice alot of change, if any. ------------------ |

JD, I like your "wax job" additions to your banner. When you replaced your converters, did you notice a noise increase? ------------------ |

Al,, Heck yes it was loud,,,,, I was running the large X-pipe as stated before with the OBX resonators. Was so loud with the cats out I had to put the stock muffler back in. Nice sound now. But sound is in ear of the beholder like I have said before. But it does sound cool,, thanks for the thumbs up on the signature,, that was a eventful day. ------------------ |

Hey now Al, I know it sounds like alot of hp from just loosing cats. I am just reporting what the dyno found in TX way back then. I was on the dyno one week, best pull will N20 was 293. One week later, without the cats and got the propane working (needed a second Iceman solonoid to replace the fuel selonoid, don't think that would give me more HP) and dyno 320 HP. So it wasn't 30 more HP, it was 27hp.......Now, I did a pull after the paxton upgrade and did a 332 HP. Not as much hp as others with the upgrade, paxton says I need the headers and X-pipe. The headers are on the way and maybe next month, I'll drop my car off to them for the x-pipe. I would just hate to loose the side pipes..............maybe a combo of paxton and realrod????? Plus, I am going to make a pass with open headers once I get them on................. ------------------ |

Yeah,, 27 ,or 30 hp gain,, sounds like way to much for just the cats off. Even my "dyno butt" would have noticed that. ------------------ |

Bill, the only thing I can wax now is the outside of the Cat with a rag. Hopefully this will change in the next few weeks. True, the Cat cant beat the Stang in stock form, but the trade off is who gets the looks? ------------------ |

Hey now, them stangs have 2 more cyl. than the kitty's. It better out run them. I got smoked by one before any mods........well I did have the real rod exhaust system, I saw the stang coming and opened the pipes and got blown away. It wasn't a drag but a street drag so that motivated me to get busy with the mods.........So JD, how much HP do you think the cats off gives??? And where did I get the 27 hp gain???? ------------------ |

Not sure Jerry, heck it maybe that much, I just didnt notice it on my car by feel, but I have not G-teched it yet. If it is true, then theres a black cat around these parts that best keep it parked. O I forget, he already does.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Looks like I'm going to have to check it Jerry, but I would lean on the smaller pulley giving it to you, and the black box change. ------------------ This message has been edited by jd2ksilver on 05-31-2001 at 01:21 PM |

OOOOHHHH!! I felt that all the way over here MR. DAVIES!!! All you are doing is getting Larry Lord more upset with your I'm faster than you stories.... Remember, you got two speeding tickets already. You might want to wait 18 months before getting another one. I feel it coming now .....

As for concerning the whole stock mustang issue, ive raced quite a few 5.0s and 4.6s in my time. My car only has a drop in K&N Filter. My friends 2000 GT Convt. can only beat me by like a car length and he has cold air induction, gears, and flowmasters. If he was stock im sure i could beat him. I have beaten all the older model 4.6L mustangs whether they had gears and exhaust or not. As for 5.0s i have only raced a couple and have beat them also. My car runs a 14.49 ET. That is the best time i have ever gotten out of it so far. I might try the alternator thing just to get a little more power ;-) And all these races were done on the street behind my house where there is like a mile of straight road that no one goes down. The most you have to worry about is hitting a deer that runs out from the woods. ------------------ !!++Youngest Driving Prowler Owner++!! -Amsoil Engine and Tranny Fluid |
