Pulled into a car show this morning at about 7:30, and asked where I should park my Prowler. The person directing traffic (within the show grounds) turns and asks a guy from the National Street Rod Association (NSRA), who rudely blurts out that "he's not going to park around here, that's NOT a street rod" and points toward the back forty. They put me in the Special Interest category, and parked me among all the Honda's and Toyota's, all of which had there ground pounding stereo's booming away. What a way to start out the day. Half way through the morning, I moved my car to a more lucrative spot, right next to the NSRA area. For the majority of the rest of the day, I had a constant flow of people salivating over my SPCL-T and all of its Purple and chrome. Many of them came by multiple times to ask more questions - and listen to the Prowler CD. LoL During the show, a gentleman wearing a Good Guy's t-shirt, amongst all his friends, asked me "why didn't you buy a restored older car instead of THAT?" I replied that it was difficult to find a 30's vintage Plymouth, which I thought was a polite enough answer. This "Good Guy" replied, "Oh, your a Chrysler person," and turned around and walked away, along with all of his cronies. To close out my day, I was awarded 2nd place for the Special Interest category. The car that beat me - a '31 Auburn. I guess I can live with that. To the Good Guys & the NSRA, keep your rudeness and your lack of civility to yourselves! ------------------ This message has been edited by SPCL-T on 05-20-2001 at 08:02 PM |

The NSRA and Good Guys just don't get it. What their rules should state is open to all modifieds and then they should state minimum mods. The NSRA says your vehicle must be a 1947 or older. However, then generally go with it must look like a 47 or older or at least tell us it does when you register. My last Street Rod (oops, I mean hot rod--sorry NSRA) was a 1950 Studebaker pick-up, top chopped, Jag suspension front and rear, Buick 401 powered, killer paint job and custom metal work. But the NSRA said sorry, it doesn't qualify. It was refreshing to point out to them that they awarded a 50 Stude pick-up best of show and pictured it in their magazine (the owner registered it as a 46--no similarities to the 1950 it was). Unless your Prowler is modified (trick paint, blower, etc...) it probably shouldn't be entered. Even a fully restored vintage racer wouldn't be welcome. My Prowler is welcome at the Saturday cruise night and it gets a lot of looks, but it did only take a checkbook to buy and it's pretty much identical to the vast majority of Prowlers on the street today.
