I am considering purchasing an air compressor to blow dry the kat before toweling it off. Hopefully this will prevent anymore swirl marks. I use only cotton towels to dry and the 90,000 thread towels to wax (found a 3-pack at k-mart for $7!). My finish isn't too bad yet but I can see it coming.

I saw the post about the the Black & Decker Leaf Hog - any other good blowers out there instead of an air compressor?

I think the Black and Decker will be cheaper and will not spray any unwanted oil on your Kat with a air compressor.

I just drive up the block and back. Cheaper?

Here's a tip from Sal Zaino that I've been following religously ( I have zero swirls after two years):

"Zaino Bros' recommends using only Large Bath size 100% Made in USA White Cotton towels with all of our products. Cotton T-shirts are too small for polish removal and not as absorbent or fluffy as towels and most contain polyester. We have found that certain towels; especially those manufactured abroad, although they say 100% cotton. They are not; they include a blend of polyester and nylon that will definitely scratch and leave swirl marks in your paint finish. The rule of thumb is to use high quality Brand Name large bath towels (Cannon or Fieldcrest) that say 100% cotton and made in the USA. Towels sold in bags in Auto Stores are not 100% cotton. Look carefully on the bag it will probably say made in Pakistan or Bangladesh or other foreign country. Do not use these towels. They will cause swirl marks and scratches on the paint surface. Always, remove the stitching around the towel prior to use. Bargain store polish applicators also contain polyester and nylon fibers and are not to be used. Also, when washing your towels, please do not use any type of fabric softeners. Always use White towels. Do not use Colored Towels they contain dyes."

I have found the above statements to be true.Swirl marks are usually self inflicted during waxing, and blow dryer would not help with swirls, but is very good at preventing waterspots (different animal).

Oddly enough, a $35 electric leaf blower works just fine.
Then use a chaomis (sp) to get the little bit that might be left.

Got the idea from a number of car detailing places.

I just got my Patriot blue PT Cruiser and the dealer
had a ton of swirl marks on it. I bought the Porter-Cable
polisher Orbital and used all 3M products, especially the swirl remover made special for dark cars. SUPER. It's like a mirror. Anyway I used a Black and Decker 210 MPH leaf blower to blow off the water. It does the job great. The new ones have a small nozzle for little areas too.

I am really glad to see that other people use a leaf blower on their cars. My neighbors and my wife think I am nuts. I thought of it after seeing the guys at a car wash use it on the mirrors for Suburbans and Expeditions. I one day thought to my self, why not try blowing the water off the vette, so I tried it and it cuts drying time by about 75%. I have yet to wash the Prowler. It just sits waiting for a day with out a chance of rain. Here in Houston that may be a while. But when I do I am gonna fire up the leaf blower and go to towm. Also I use only cloth diapers to dry and I do not use any soap at all, and have the hose running as I wipe the car down. I have used this technic for many years, it is a real "hand wash". I typically buy only black cars and this has kept the scratches to a minimum.

I use the California Water Blade ($20 at WalMart), then hit it with a 100% cotton towel, then a leaf blower, then a towel again for any left over water spots. The blower works great for the wheels, grill, door jambs, mirrors etc.

I wonder....what about doing it Blade/Blower/Towel? I just ask because I am unsure why you towel AFTER the blade, and before the Blower. And, how do you all (blower users....NOT the one under the hood, Mike! ) do it? Start at the top and work your way around and down?

Okay - I went out and got the Toro blower ($60) that produces a 215 mph wind - but it didn't come with any extra attachments

I thought Vipermad had a good question - where do you start? Top to bottom, back to front?

Thanks all for your help!
