I know the 2000 and 2001 models do not "like" chrome very well... but has anyone has these polished and, maybe even clear coated over the polish yet, if so, how did this turn out, any pics? ------------------ |

Todd, I had my A-arms polished and the rest of the front suspension chromed. My understanding is that it was only the a-arms that changed maunufacturer and became problem to chrome. The A-arms polished up well although a lot of work by report. Everything else chromed nicely. Here a couple of quick shots, hope to get complete scrapbook up soon. Work by Chris Wade (CNote6) in Dallas. I believe I remember Ed Goetz at the Grand Canyon Cruise saying that he had tried clear coating the polished A-arms but did not have success with clear coat taking and holding to the polished surface. Looks good Phil. Did you never try to chrome the arms? Because you have the old style hub I thought the arms with the old style could be chromed? When Carlini and I tried to chrome the front end of the 2000 the hubs and bottom arms would not take the copper, the top A-arms would chrome. ------------------ |

Phil's a-arms were the ruff finish not the smooth ones like on the early prowlers, That is why it took so long but turned out great! Gary lots of preping was the key to the chrome work. Phil I love that last picture. Every prowler should come like that. Thanks for all the nice words Chris ------------------ |

Thanks... either the dealer or the paint shop let my Black Tie get some kind of water on it that corroded the aluminum on the brake backing plate. I'm off today to try and get them to take care of this... I figured the best way would be to have them put them on and off and have the parts polished at their expense... Another problem... The same paint shop has let my Orange sit outside for the past 2 plus months, in the rain, with the hood and sides off...so now all the engine compartment aluminum is corroded as well... Lets say I'm a little upset. I'm hoping this can be fixed with some polishing also. Any thoughts on polishing the engine compartment aluminum? ------------------ |

The problem with any polishing is maintenance. Just the all chrome front end on the BK is another 30 minutes of work. Polished is another 2 hours or more I would guess. I would wait for the Carlini front covers and be done with it. BTW, Talked to Gary Saturday and he is still taking it slowly and he said he appreciates all the patience all of you have had. ------------------ |

well... yes and no... I have this stuff called ProTect All and Flitz that works wonders to bring this down to a minimum time... Also, I have these corroded brake backing plates that either the dealer or the paint shop the dealer sent her to that have to be taken care of. Chrome would be preferred... not sure if I can get them to bite that bullet. Chrome, of course, has the additional bennifit of potential peeling later on if not plated corretly. ------------------ |

JD, Yes we did the work and sure we can talk. Gary, I do like the carlini covers but you have to finish it out with the brakes inside the wheels or it just looks half a$$ <sorry. If you are going to do this. DO IT ALL Chris CROME IS GOOD BABY ------------------ |

Todd, that bites about the orange being left outside with the engine covers off. This is a new car-why should you have to settle for a half-a$$ job? It never would have had to sit in the rain or wet if there was no prob in the first place. Sounds like the lemon law could be enforced and you get a new car or bucks back. This is way too long for repair. ------------------ |

I have seen Phils car, IT LOOKS GREAT and guess mine will be done this winter, TOO BAD THERE ISN'T AN EXCHANGE PROGRAM, I would like it done now but cannot be without the cat for a month in the summer, while it is done. ------------------ |

yea Al, I was just over the auto body place today looking at the Orange. I, and my girl, Ophie, drove the other two over to show them what I expect when I get her back. The "under the hood" of both still looks brand new, and the black has 10 K on her now. They told me they plan to put a mild acid on the aluminum to get the oxidation off... I tried to be nice and calm as I about passed out. We shall see... but I have severe doubts. I'll not settle for anything less then a brand new condition car though... this doesn't get settled soon, I'll have to stop being nice about it. ------------------ |
