I am sill looking for a good company that knows how to chrome a plastic grill. I have heard bad stuff about the person in Florida, and the person in Ohio does not return phone calls. So who is left?

Anyone else have any luck. I would like to find someone ASAP.
Thanks
Sasy

Good luck,, this turned out pretty good, but I had to paint the rear of the grill black to take off the raw edge look of the unpolished portion of the chrome.

This is from the guy in Fla you heard bad things about, I took this to three other chromers when I got it back and they all told me they could not do better.

If you find a better place, please post it.

My grill is in FL right now. Owner has been VERY responsive to my questions and concerns over some negative and, I might add, erroneous posts from on here. He has given me 'fair' expectations and, along with Laddie's experience, I feel confident that I will be satisfied. I will post my honest thoughts when I get it back ... should be soon.

Also, guy in MI is for iterior pieces, different process and NOT what you want done for an exterior grill item. Believe me, I have called them all too.

Starflame, do a search for grills I think and you should find several different ideas. I think you will find that someone has come out with brushed aluminum or stainless steel one.

Hi All
Since I am an engineer, I think I will try to contact some past associates in the auto industry and try to get a design off for a true chrome grill for the Prowler. I will start to work on this ASAP. As far as the gentleman in MI that does the dash parts, he did tell me that this is a vacuum method. The finish is not durable unless it is clear coated with a very durable finish. I think this is OK if done right. After all the grill is only plastic too.

Sassy ...

Careful ... Exterior parts, specially in the very front of the car where it is sujected to bugs and road debris, needs to be electroplated for duability. Vaccume plating is fine for interior pieces that are not 'stressed'.

If you DO go that route, though, let us all know how it holds up ... I found MANY place that do that process, just very few (1) that does the electroplate and will polish someting as tough as the Prowler grille.

Hi
I just worked up a grill design and will show it to my fabricator this week. I think I have a very good shot at this.

Polished SS I think would be the way to go... a little clear coat and it will look like chrome and LAST.

I have been sitting on an extra grille for 3 weeks now trying to determine who to send it to...I saw Joebob's at TMS and it looked pretty good and Laddie's from what I could tell through the bra looked good as well..both were done by the company in FL...I got a quote from a chromeservices.com for $500.00 but I have not heard from anyone else that has used them...I welcome any help and assistance...I'm thinking about just sending it to FL and rolling the dice...
Thanks
Leon

My understanding is that the good chromers of plastic put down copper first and sand and polish then chrome. Am I correct?

I looked through my records and I can't find it. It is my understanding,,it is a three coat process that custom coatings use,, copper, zinc (I think) then the chrome... Someone with more knowledge please correct me if I'm wrong.

The problem has always been it was too difficult to polish the inaccessible areas between coatings, hence the raw metal look at the rear of the fins.

Laddie is correct

the last time it was posted they charged $400 and 10~12 week wait. I had mine done over a year ago and told them when I wanted it and I had it back but it was 7 weeks. At that time they said 6~8 weeks

Sassymama, I've had mine grill almost 20 months (aug 1999) and I think it is fine... It wasn't until I heard other comments that I realized it wasn't completely polished. It looks fine to me & I would use Custom Coatings again... There's always a lot of talk, but, to date, NO one has come up with another source that will tackle chroming this grill... There is another grill being offered by M&L (I think)and you can always use the tape idea.

It took six or seven weeks to have mine done by CCC & that's what they quoted...

Hi everyone, I know it has been quite awhile since you have heard from me. My health took a dump, but is now on the mend. I currently have 12 of our grills, Carlini Design, in production and should have some within the next 30 days. Check out our web site. I hope I can be of some help.
