That's an easy one ... buy the "tool" from Chrysler ... it's a long flat ended plastic tool that you can gently prey off the cap without damage. Has worked for me with great results. ------------------ |

I wrap a flat bladed screw driver with a paper towel, I think the problem is when you reapply the cap. |

You should buy trim stick. It is a plastic stick about 6" long 1/8" thick and narrows on each end. Check at auto parts store or auto tool supplier. The flat screwdriver will work but it can still ding the plastic, even with a towel around it.I have 4 I can show you that had a Towel wrapped around it and still messed up the edge of the slot. To install, center the cap and push equally around. I suspect, if you install one side then pop the other down is what breaks the tabs. I have had mine off several times and broke one tab and it was when I was not in good position to push straight on.

The tool is Miller Special Tools #C4755. You can have your Chrysler Service Department Manager order them < $5.00 for you. I've had a couple stems break the first time the cap is removed and used epoxy to repair. Haven't had another breakage after removing them a half a dozen times. I try to keep the caps evenly on the rim holding one side and gently tap the the center with the palm of my hand and move around the cap evenly set into place. Easier done then said. Hope that helps.

If you're going to be taking them off and on with some frequency, one thing I have found to work, is to get them off the first time (or if you bought replacements do this before you put them on the first time). Apply roughly 1cm bead of epoxy behind the tab. You can find some epoxies that have some flex to them. Do this behind all the tabs and let dry completely. Once dry, it will help support the prong during countless applications and removals. I would still recommend using the Chrysler tool to remove. I have also had problem reinstalling center caps. I've broken a few myself. I have found that pushing 3 of the locking tabs in and taking a small screw driver and depressing the last locking tang in with the screw driver. I hope this helps. Neal |

Ok, here is one of my "home" remedies for re-installing the caps. I have been using a bar of hand soap. This method is also used to make screws go into wood eaiser. Drag it lightly over the prongs and then apply light even pressure to the center of the caps, it will slide on just fine and the cap has not slipped off after. The first time you wash the car after that it washes whatever soap may be left on the inside. Do use the tool to remove them, it is just safer for sure. ------------------ |
