Anyone else have trouble opening this topic that Gary posted this morning? I was able to access it this morning, but cant anymore as it locks up my puter. How about killing the dogs out thing as this seems to double load and give me the error message?

butchcee,

If your using a modem, it might take you about 3 to 5 minutes to load the dog music.

If your getting an error, I could suggest a fix;

Do the following if you own a PC with Windows 95,98 or ME-

1. Scroll your mouse to your desktop "Start" menu.
2. Within the "Start" menu, scroll up to the "Settings" link.
3. Scroll your mouse over to the "Control Panel" link and click it.
4. A window will open up then look for the "Modems" icon.
5. Double click the "Modems" icon.
6. A new window will open up with 4 listings on top of this window.
7. Scroll your mouse over to the "Connection" sub folder and click it.
8. You should see a new display detailing your "Connection preferences".
9. Scroll your eyes below these settings and you should find 2 buttons called "Port Settings..." and "Advanced...".
10. Scroll your mouse over the "Port Settings..." button and click it.
11. This will display a new window which details the rate at which you digest data thru your modem.
12. Check your "Receive Buffer:" settings. If is set to "High" drop it down to "Medium". This should correct connections problems. This will slow you down a bit though.

Hope it helps!

Later..

Thanks Dan-I'm using cable. I checked my reveiver buffer and it was on high-I moved it down 25% and I still got that annoying pop-up saying I have performed an illegal operation. This is with Netscape. Hadn't had a problem till the second time I tried to open Gary's post. Guess it will remain a mystery and I'll miss a little bit. Thanks for your help and showing me a new setting to mess with!!!

Hey Al,

I'm not sure that all versions of Netscape support embeded sound files. Netscape is really a dinosaur of a browser. You should think about installing MS Internet Explorer. It loads faster and is much more compatible with all sites. Also, you can have both browsers installed on your system at the same time. Try Internet Explorer and if you don't like it, you can go back to Netscape. What version are you running? Go to help at the top of the page and select about. This will give you the version.

I changed the way the sound file loads just a few minutes ago. Try it again and tell me what happens. If it still doesn't work, I'll remove the sound this evening so you can view the thread.

Mike, I'm running the old 4.5. I tried the 6, but didn't like the format-must be the old dog, new tricks thing!!
Same thing when trying to load that thread-maybe the jumping cat and the sound bit confuse this system. Like me, confuse easily I never had a prob before this, but you're right, time to try new stuff-Thanks for the advice.

NS6 is SCARY! I usually do all my testing with IE 5.5 and NS 4.76 and find them both to be OK, I think IE is better (IMHO). The way NS and IE "see" code differently is annoying to say the least! IE is more forgiving to us code-people with thick fingers!!

Butchee...............get rid of the Netscape. I was using it for some time and got those errors all the time. Mike K. and Gary C convinced me to switch to Internet Explorer and I have not had one problem since!!!
