With my '99 Yellow Kat for sale (borla, ceramic pads, PIAA lites, splash guards $39.9K) bc of a promise I made to my wife (that I would drive it for only 2 yrs), I now have to find a replacement car. The problem is that I was driving my Kat daily and NOTHING else makes me happy or even gears up my interest!

So, I am lookng for any ideas on what to get to replace '99 Yellow #2. The criteria - must be sporty, unusual or somewhat unusualy but flashy, $60Kish or less, quick or 230-250+ HP, and hold 3 kids and a (mean) wife!

I am thinking BMW X5 4.4 (but that's not convertible) or a MB 430 CLK cab, or maybe the new Lexus SC430 hardtop convertible....any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance....B

Any reason you cannot have TWO cars? Life's not worth living when you give up the only thing that makes you happy, you hate life, take it out on the wife and kids, and end up with nothing.

What about a Shelby Durango? A dealer here in Pittsburgh had one, brand new, and was willing to let it got for around $35k. The window sticker was in the high $40k range if I remember correctly. The original Dodge dealer had to put in another lot they owned just to make it more visible, and still after months of sitting there, had no takers. If you want to go the SUV route, I'd definetely look into it. I drove it and it was very solid and perfomed well for an SUV.

OK,

You drove it for two years, fine, sell it, buy a Blue one and drive it for two years and get the wife some Diamond something. Then you both will be happy. Come on man, I would have thought you know how to play this game. We all don't want you to be bumm'n in a Vette or Porsche or Viper let alone a Bimmer.

Hope it works out, hate to see you in the Porsche Club(hehe).

Daryl, thank is a good price on the Shelby Durango (if it is loaded and has the supercharger & headers). Horsepower should be just shy of 400. Most of the loaded ones I have seen for sale are $45K+. This truck flies and handles real well, but still not as much fun as the kat.

Hey, watch the Porsche comments.....

You could try a Boxster S unless you really need 4 seats.

The performance "3-series" BMW convertible.

And while fast, I don't think it's faster then a new vette with a 6-speed. And I know it's not faster the the Z06 vette.

M3 is definitely not faster than any Vette! I have had 3 C5 Vettes in the past year. 98,00, & now 01 Z06.The M3 may be quick, but the handling does not even compare.
If you need a cool family car....I would go for the 430 Cabriolet. They look sharp.

Mellow - how about a used Hummer, with 505 Mountain motor?
Fast, holds the whole block, sporty (?), unusaul looking - seems to fit your needs.

NA, Gary's idea was better!
Buy the lady something,,,,,,,,,,,,,,call DavidN for great suggestions

Thanks for the comments, suggestions, and a little ribbing-I deserve it. The problem with not having two cars (nor a Hummer) is where we live. Very tiny lots, big houses, only a two car garage (and no street room to park anything else, much less where it would be safe from the 20 kids on the block and their bicycles/scooters). The Hummer was next on the list, but it won't fit in the garage and it's not as much fun as the Kat. Hey, didn't I see a pic of a four seater Kat somewhere? The M3 convertible is on the list, but it doesn't really float my boat. X5 is moving close to the top, but maybe a boring LX470...then again, I love to have the top down....MB 430 CAB....ouch, I am rambling and my head hurts...

thanks again.... B

Can't you find storage for the Prowler? I hate it when people do not get to drive the cars that make them happy. The cost of the X5 is about $50-60k. Seems like your used Prowler and a reasonable sedan $20-30k would be about the same cost.

By the way-what does your wife drive?

If absolutely need an SUV type vehicle-call me and we can build you something fun. 805-604-1336 x 224. Maybe a supercharged Durango, Expedition or Navigator. My first choice would still be to keep the car you love and buy an economical "practical" car.

Good Luck

The NEW BMW M3 is a sick machine. Handles amazing does BUT not sacrafise ride (unlike a Z06), carries 5 people, and pretty much blows away anything on the street. One down fall is most people think you just own a 3-series. People who know about cars will know you have something special.
