I was playing around in the garage tonight and pulled out the stereo in the Prowler. Usually the first thing I do in a car. Suprised the Prowler made it this long. Everything was ready to go and the new head unit is killer. But, There is a small wire harness w/ (2) wires. A Violet/Brown, and a White/Black. I am assuming they have something to do w/ the factory Infinity Amp? As the stereo works but there is no sound. I can hook speakers directly to the unit, and am OK. If anyone knows what these two wires are used for, that would be AWESOME! Or, Can anyone tell me if I will be able to do just a head unit swap for the mean time, or will I have to do a complete system install? I really don't want to do that right now. Just really want to swap out the head unit & changer w/ a 1.5 din Alpine that I have used before and am very impressed with. Then I will go in later and really spice things up. Please reply and/or drop me an e-mail if you can be of any assistance. Thanks --Rich-- ------------------ |

Rich, I am replacing my head unit this week also. If I am correct, I believe there is a diagram on top of the stock head unit which lists each wire's description. If not, they might be the wires that go to the steering wheel (?). |

Yeah, there is a diagram, but, that only shows the two typical harnesses which are power, speakers etc. Nothing about the other two wires. --Rich-- ------------------ |

I am sure that this info is in the Service manual wiring diagram. I'll look it up when I get home, and post reply ------------------ |

Man that's a nice looking car Rich. Going to get my silver done in ghost flames next month. Thought I had a good idea on pattern, seeing yours got me rethinking. I like the color. ------------------ |

John, the flames really change to some cool colors. It looks amazing if you walk around it in the sunlight! Glenn, I would really appreciate anything you can find! Thanks Again! --Rich-- |

Regarding the two wire connector... that is the data line and on the Prowler this only controls data from the Steering Wheel Controls. Sincerely, Jay ------------------ |

If that is the case, what turns on the factory amp? I have heard both sides so far.(Steering wheel controls/Amp Power Leads) Either way...how can I install the new head unit, without any other 'serious' modifications to the car? --Rich-- |

My suggestion is to buy the Metra 70-1770 (I think that is the part #) Chrysler harness adapter. There is a blue wire from that harness that wires to the remote amp turn on from the new radio. Regarding the two little wires, they are for the radio steering wheel buttons which can still be used in conjunction with Lighting Audio's steering wheel remote adapter (about $75). ------------------ |

CoolRich, Here's the info from the service manual... The VT/BR, and WT/BL twisted pair that you refer to is the CCD bus that goes to the steering wheel. The power amp on /off signal to the power amp is the DG/WT wire on the Black connector (referred to as connector 2). The rest of the pinout is: There is also a DIN cable from the CD changer... Hope this helps... I went through a major overhaul of my system a while back. The only thing I kept was the stock head unit( go figure). Good luck ------------------ |

The Infinity amplifier is turned on via an internal amplifier relay, which is activated by pin #1 (Dark Green/White wire) in the Black seven-pin connector. This is the radio's 12VDC output pin and is activated by the radio's power on/off circuit. When the radio is on, low current 12VDC is produced and available to "turn on" various components but not produce a high current operating voltage to actually power these components. As previously stated the 2-pin connector, is the CCD Bus (data) and the violet/brown is (+) and the white/black is (-) which not only sends data from the steering wheel controls, but also sends data from the dash mounted auto volume switch via the Body Computer. If you install another type of radio, you will need to connect the Dark Green/White wire to the 12VDC output of the replacement radio to turn on the audio and antenna amplifiers. Additionally, the auto volume and steering wheel controls will not work, as the data is incompatible with other brands. These are really great features to loose by swapping the radio. If you want specific radio wiring or drawings, send your FAX number and specific request to autotron@bellsouth.net Sincerely, Jay ------------------ |

Thanks All. I actually just completed the installa few minutes ago. I actually found the GR/WT wire on accident. That is generally the Power Antenna lead according to my harness diagram, I connected the remote amp lead from the new head unit and WALLA! Had I spent more than 10 minutes on this last nigth, I may have figured it out then. Now I just need to figure out the best place to install the new changer. It is a 12 disc and a bit larger than the factory changer But I can do without for now since the new head unit is CD. You would think they would get rid of the tape deck thing already! Thanks Again. --Rich-- |

FYI... just in case you change your mind in the future and want to change back to the factory unit... Chrysler does make a AM/FM/CD no Cassette and a AM/FM/CD with Cassette that fits the Cat and is compatible with the Steering Wheel Controls and auto volume switch. Jay ------------------ |

Yeah, that was an idea. Until you look at how much they want for those 'factory' units. I spent 1/2 as much on something way better. Pirana...How do I get one of those steering wheel control adapter? and will that also re-connect the auto volume adjust? Do you sell them? --Rich-- |

Something way better? My personal opinion is NO, but then that is why they make Chocolate and Vanilla. I concede the units are pricey, but maybe not as much as you think. Sorry, no Steering Wheel Adapter due to the complexity of and proprietary protocols having to interface with the Cat's Body Computer. If you decide to return to the Chrysler system in the future, let me know for a current price quote of a CD only or CD with cassette unit. Jay ------------------ |
