I decided to post this here to make sure everyone sees it!! I have just uploaded some new items to make things a bit easier around here!! The biggest addition is the ability to upload images to the ProwlerOnline.com server. This is particularly good for those of you who have no place to host your pictures...you know, those pictures on your computer that you can't send to anybody, but you want them on the board. Notice the paper-clip button when you are writing a message...if you click on it you will be taken through the steps to upload a picture from YOUR computer directly to ProwlerOnline.com...then you will be given the precise code needed to insert that picture into you message (cut-n-paste!!) Please note the words of wisdom on the first upload page...this is really cool!!! Next you might notice a button to insert a sound (.wav) and Flash animation. We will get a new FAQ put together soon to cover these items, but in the meantime please report any problems...these two features didn't get the benefit of intense testing like the upload feature, so please be patient with us!! The last couple things we did was to increase the size of the box where you type your message, just to make it a little easier, and incase you are used to Microsoft products...we added the spell-check feature to the button bar (as well as having the button near the Submit button. It is important to know that you can use these things if you like, that you will not break anything by using them...and once you get the hang of it, well, you'll wonder how you ever got along without them in the first place. It COULD be frustrating at first for some...all we ask is that you hang in there and let us know your problems. Feel free to provide feedback on the new items, especially the upload feature, as we are continually striving to improve things for the Prowler community! From all of us here at ProwlerOnline.com ------------------ |

Tony, would we be able to keep pictures on the server in central area or albums or is it a one time upload to that post only much like web shots? BTW I just tried works great. ------------------ davidn |

I just modified the upload page to reflect this one simple fact. DO NOT have spaces in your picture names! They will upload, but will not display! For the few of you who uploaded images with spaces (the muffler!!), the link will work if you take the spaces out of the name when you try to post...I already changed the file name on the server (I just removed the spaces, thats all). I know that many images (and files) can be stored on Win9x with spaces, so when you find your image, once it is in the little box ready for upload, either take the spaces out, or rename it to something YOU will remember, to a name that is unlikely to be in use already (if it is you will be prompted to change the name), and preferably to a name that follows the 8.3 standard (meaning 8 characters followed by the 3 character extension...i.e thisfile.jpg). No harm done, I just want to make sure it works for everyone, and I'm sure there are a couple who had it NOT work...what a bummer. There is nothing we can do about how the server sees filenames...except try to stick to the rules governing the server. I'll work on having the upload script check for spaces...Glad you like it!!! ------------------ |

VIPERMAD-Guess I'm "the muffler". It was one of the only pics I had that was small enough to load. I wondered what happened to it!!! Thanks-AL ------------------ |

(laughing) No worries Al, it is still there for you! Any feedback on the instructions on the first page would be greatly appreciated! Sometimes I take for granted that EVERYONE knows all the little nuisances of this computer stuff, and I leave vital information out simply because I assume too much!! ------------------ |

Tony, I tried a test post, and it worked great! The only question I have is about server space. I don't want to use your disk space. Are there any guidelines on this? Do the pics stay there, or do they retire after some period of time? ------------------ |

Good question Glenn. Mike and I are "chewing the fat" on this one, and I am trying to write some routines that will help to keep things in check as far as available disk space. Maybe one way to go about it for now is to allow images to stay there for "x" number of days? Let's say an image is uploaded, then at some point it is pruned off the server...the messages it is in will have the dreaded red X now. The code will stay there in the message, but the image is no longer there. Then, days, weeks, months down the road, someone says "Hey, anybody have picture "X"?" All you would have to do is upload it again, using the same filename, and it would be back in the message. Did that make sense? ------------------ |

I think we will take a wait-and-see approach as to how much server space the pictures occupy by the end of the month. For now, enjoy the new features, and many, many thanks to Vipermad Tony! ------------------ |
