Since there are so many very well computer educated POA members on this board, I have to ask this question. I have a need to put a 100 page document on a website each month where about 2500 to 5000 people can access it. The original files are MSWord and MSExcel, but there are so many of them each month, it might be easier to scan a printed out hardcopy version of the entire report than to convert all the individual files and put them in order. What is the easiest/best, where the report can be accessed quickly on line- scan this 100 page puppy to ????? or convert all the MSWord and Excel files to ????? and post it on the net that way. If I scan, are the 100 page document feeders for scanners available? Or can I go to Kinkos and ask them to scan and give it back to me on a disk or via email in ???? format? Since this report sells for nearly $10,000 per year, we have a urgent need for security so folks will not pass out their access codes to others (maybe make it only accessible via their own specific computer or company email?). Any and all suggestions welcome....thanks! Brian |

MellowYellow, If you have microsoft word or excel 99 or above, I would save those files as html and have microsoftword or excel build the html pages for you. All you do then is ftp the files to your webhost server and on your index.html page create a link to it. Printing the documents and rescanning them, in my opinion would be much more work. Later... ------------------ [This message has been edited by dpena (edited 10-26-2000).] |

Thanks Dan, you are the man. But, unfortunately, we most of our MSWord docs have tables (lots of tabs) and these get hosed up big time in the conversion to HTML. Nothing lines up properly. Likewise, none of our Excel databases are standardized and they seem to do the same thing. We are trying to work this out with PageMaker software now, but I still would think that scanning into an ????.??? file would work best. This is only because there are so many different docs and spreadsheets (all done by different people) that it would be a nightmare to pull 30-40 different ones together, convt to html, then post to web (compared to scanning the final single hard copy that we will have anyway). If we chose the scanning route, what format do we scan it to? Any industrial 100page autofeed scanners out there? thanks again....Brian

Do they have to be readable ON the web? What I mean is, could you put it up in a .zip file and allow users secure access to download the .zip files....or is it something they need to be able to bring up like a web page? I'll check back in, but feel free to e-mail if you like! Greetings all you POA members! Tony (Vipermad) |
