The following is a note that I received from Roger Freeman after he and Bev drove the Las Vegas to Laughlin section of our tour last week. My recommendation is the same as Roger's. I will be meeting Mike and Judy Krehel near the Las Vegas airport at 2:35 PM. Mike and Judy are having their Prowler delivered to them at the airport. After they get their car and I pick up Julie at the airport. John Schulz, Bob and CJ Longstreth, Jim Hergert, Mike and Judy Krehel, Julie and myself, will catavan to Laughlin to meet up with the rest of you in the hospitality suite before the concert. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bev and I drove through Las Vegas, Henderson bound, which is the same freeway you will be taking prior to your right turn for Laughlin. It was on a Thursday, about 5;15 p.m. We concluded that there must be a lot of office jobs in Las Vegas with a 5;00 p.m. quitting time. And that we would try to avoid the evening commute in the future, lord only knows what Las Vegas Boulevard must have been like. We were moving but very slowly with stop and go. The northbound traffic was at a complete standstill. If you try to leave during drive time, you will not arrive Laughlin in time for Everley Brothers. This is obviously personal opinion only, but I would not recommend trying to caravan the prowlers from Las Vegas to Laughlin. Your coordination effort, with this traffic, will be a real headache, the cars will get spread out quickly, and after you make your right turn for Laughlin, it is pitch black. You won’t be able to see each other anyway. It’s too much work for little gain particularly when we will have many miles of cruising together over the next couple days under ideal conditions, weather permitting. I would suggest to folks that they leave Las Vegas before the evening drive if they are able. It is 87 miles and 1 ½ hours to Laughlin if they can do that but quite a bit more time if they wait. Have everyone just come as soon as they can, on their own, would be my idea. Also note: It’s not quick getting checked into the Riverside. It’s a high volume operation with lines at registration possibly. Maybe a long walk to your room. Our parking is way back in the corner. And you need to check into Suite 999. On their huge lighted sign on the strip, it did not announce the Everley Brothers. It said “help wanted, all departments”. Under any condition, after you make the right turn for Laughlin, the sailing is clear. But here’s a tip: After you pass Searchlight Nevada, it’s open road including a very long downhill highway to the Colorado River. It’s easy to speed and many do but this is a giant speedtrap for the Nevada Troopers. They were picking em off like flies when we came through in the dark. Tell everyone to keep an eye on the speedometer during the Searchlight to Laughlin stretch. Roger p.s. I was reading USA Today this morning and the biggest population explosion cities listed Henderson Nevada and North Las Vegas among the highest. I believe it. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Larry Lord (edited 10-21-2000).] |

The message above has been edited! Mike and Judy Krehel have changed to an earlier flight (1:15 PM) and we will now be leaving Las Vegas at about 3:00 PM for our catavan to Laughlin. |

Larry - Roger is right on about heading to Laughlin earlier. I have driven that stretch many times, and you probably will encounter motor homes (snowbirds) traveling south and slowing your time down. Casino check-ins are always slow in Vegas and Laughlin (time for you to drop extra $ in slots). To be in Laughlin, checked in, change clothes, etc., I'd figure a departure time that will put the gang out near Henderson by 3:00-3:30 to avoid excess traffic, and still make 7:00pm show time. You don't want to have everyone running and stressed out that are going to see the show. This is my opinion, from experience, FYI. Good luck! Have fun! |

That's funny CJ. You'll be driving a rental car disguised as a Prowler and I'll be driving a Prowler disguised as a rental car. ------------------ |
