FYI I stopped by Eastgate Chrysler in Indianapolis, IN. today they have #40 sitting out waiting for the right person that Just Has To Have It and is willing to pay $18,000 over sticker for it. That is right they are asking $65,000 for this car. ------------------ |

Seems like a reasonable price for a limited edition Prowler. |

I thought I saw some high prices on AutoTrader.com last night, but that's ridiculous. Anything over 48K-49K is wasting money. They should givea box of CHARM pops with it, cause at that price they need a real SUCKER! |

Interesting comments above. The conclusions about overpaying are very similar, but for different reasons, to what was said about the '70 Cuda hemi in 1970. Slower than a 440/six pak, more expensive than the 440/six pak, worse in the handling department because of the excessive weight in the front end, higher insurance rates, etc. Just to keep things in perspective. Duffys www.duffys.com just sold a 70 cuda hemi with 10M miles for $59,500. www.classicmusclecars.com has one listed for $72,000 if anybody cares. But there were less than 1000 total of those cars built....they were thrashed by the owners and very few originals exist....the money would still have been worth more invested anywhere than sitting in a car for 30 years....I have had dealers tell me what a great investment Prowlers were...my question to them was "why would you sell this car to me, what about letting your mother in on a deal like this"...I just wonder how much profit some of these dealers will lose in the years to come over a little instant greed ??? I can tell story after story of dealers losing customers forever, loyal customers that had bought several cars per year for 20 - 30 years.....never to return...myself being one of those.... |

I sold my '70 Hemi Cuda in 1990 for $80,000. Had 15,000 miles on it then. That was a bit of luck because I would not have sold it except I needed the money to start a business. It is still worth less than that today. Cars are not normally a good investment. Now I just try to buy vehicles that are enjoyable and might not depreciate as fast as an average driver. The Prowler certainly fits that criteria. |

Phil.....Agree, good timing on the sale....I also had MOPAR muscle cars then....HEMI E-bodies, 340 SIX PAKS and winged cars were all I owned...the market peaked in 90....had sold lots of cars by that time and was expecting to see a breakdown in pricing.....things can't go up forever.....I started thinning my collection about that time, and never regretted it....sold my last 2 muscle cars(Challenger T/A's, pink and plum) this last summer...like the new stuff...stereo, power, warranty, and my Vipers will run circles around any HEMI car I ever owned....just can't get much better...what color was the HEMICUDA... I agree with Y2K Yello on sale to future customers. 23 years ago I worked at Chrysler Electrical plant in Indy. Eastgate had a `77 Roadrunner with T Tops and black landeu top on a bright orange car. This was a good looking car. I tried to buy it. Maybe because this 18 year old kid walking in they thought I couldn't afford to buy it. Were they WRONG. I went to another dealer and ordered a new car with every option on it (except radio). Base price $3,500 list price $7,000 without a radio. I have never went back to try and buy a car from them and do not recommend them to anyone. They are HIGH pressure sales and because of location are not very customer friendly. I only started this thread to show what some dealers feel these cars are worth. The Woodward they had, I believe they were asking $60,000 and regular Cats at $55,000. ------------------ |

I almost bought a Black Tie 2 weeks ago. A dealer in Toledo, I think, had one he was offering at 49900 firm. I exchanged some e-mails with him so I know the price was authentic and not a "come on"! The key is how far your willing to go to get one. I couldn't find the Silver, that I eventually bought, anywhere near sticker at my local dealers (who weren't selling very many). Then found one at sticker 200 miles away in Lincoln Nebr. at sticker (where they were selling lots!) |

I will repeat this story for all the newer members. Back in March or April I stopped and looked at a Woodward. I already owned a 99 Red. They quoted $65,000 for it and told me they were selling for $140,000 on ebay. 5 months later I saw a Woodward at a cruise in and asked him if he bought it at Kingswood. He did, the week before, for $46,000. I would have bought it back in March for $46,000 but they thought they had the upper hand. They sat on it for 5 months and paid interest on it for that long. They could have had a quick sale, happy customer and probably gotten another cat in, in the meantime. Shop around. |
