"Crusin' the Coast" begins on Wednesday Oct. 4th and ends on Sunday noon Oct. 8th. The event will feature five "mini" car & music festivals up & down the 25 miles of coast in the cities of Biloxi, D'Iberville, Gulfport, Long Beach & Bay St. Louis. In addition, there are other events at night sponsored by the casinos (Johnny Rivers, Neil Sedacka, Chubby Checker, Percy Sledge, Imperials, Platters, etc…). Drag racing on Saturday ($15), Poker runs & $15,000 cash drawing in $500 increments (one of our guys won last year).

There are 2,700 cars pre-registered as of Sept 1. I'm planning a Prowler & PT Cruiser cruise for Friday beginning at the Grand Oasis in Gulfport. We'll do another on Saturday beginning at the Gulfport Dragway… I'm planning to run the Prowler & PT Cruiser on the strip (actually Beau will be racing my sister Gwen in there PTs). Everyone is invited to participate in all or any portion of events. Please let me know if you plan to attend and where. I'll be staying at the Grand Oasis in Gulfport beginning on Wednesday Oct. 4th.

Here's my tentative schedule for the week…

Wednesday, Oct. 4th. We're planning to do the block party in Gulfport and than the kickoff parade & cruise from Long Beach (6 to 7) and than the Rockin at the Dock at Long Beach Yacht Club (6:30 to 9:30).

Thursday Oct 5th. We'll be cruisin from Gulfport to all the sites & casinos for the Poker run. We'll probably go to Biloxi Cadet point 1st, D`Iberville, Gulfport & Bay St. Louis in that order. We'll also be checking out the vendor / swap meet area at the Gulf coast coliseum. Thursday night open….

Friday Oct 6th. All Prowlers & PT Cruisers & other cars are welcome to meet in the parking lot behind the Grand Oasis in Gulfport between 9 & 10 am. We'll leave at 10:15 am sharp for cruising to all the cruise & music sites. We may stop for lunch along the way. We'll go to D`Iberville 1st than Biloxi, Gulfport & Bay St. Louis (last 3 to 4:30). Friday night the Grand in Biloxi has a classic cruise night with band & flame throwing exhibition. We also are planning to attend Johnny Rivers concert (9 PM at the Grand in Biloxi). Tickets are available through Ticketmaster ($10).

Saturday Oct. 7th. We're planning to start at the Gulfport Dragway. We are planning to run the Prowler & PT Cruiser down the drag strip. Anyone else that would like to run or watch is welcome. The track fee is $15 for running car down track. I plan to leave the track around noon and cruise to all the sites. We'll cruise to D`Iberville first and than hit Biloxi, Gulfport and end in Bay St. Louis (3 to 4:30). Saturday night the Grand in Gulfport is hosting a Classic Cruise In from 5 to 8 PM. There will be band & flame throwing exhibition. We're planning on attending Neil Sedacka concert (9:00 PM Grand Oasis). Tickets available through ticketmaster ($10).

Sunday Oct 8th. We go to the Gulfport site to see if we win any of the $500 cash drawings from the $15,000 pot. Maybe someone will get lucky on the poker run… We'll probably leave Gulfport around noon to head back home to Louisiana…

Again, everyone is welcome to attend all the events or only one… If you can make it for just one day that is fine… Just let me know if you're planning on attending so that I'll know who to look out for… Send me email or call me at 504-845-2790. Again, I'll be at the Grand Oasis in Gulfport.

FYI...

I received my pre registration package yesterday and there is a change in registered cars for 2001. Only cars 25 years or older will be registered. However, any cars registered in 2000 will be "Grand Fathered" for 2001.

Cruisin the coast organizers are trying to model this event after "Hot August Nights". And, I understand this is the way they operate... I suspect this may be a way to limit the registered cars to the 4,000 to 5,000 range...
