I know we are all freaks about waxing our Kats. Hell, 37 and still in high school my neighbor sez. Oh well, got the May 2000 edition of Consumer Reports and I think they did a great job on WAX/car polish. Threw my #18 ranked Turtle Wax and my #26 ranked Meguires away and went and bought #1, #2, and #3, then tried them all. Damn are they good. #1 was Zymol Cleaner Wax, #2 Prestone Bullet Wax (with applicator), and #3 was Nu Finish Car Polish (paste). They ranked them on gloss, durability, cleaning, ease of use, and none scratch/hazing (or swirl removal).

#1, #3 very good in gloss, #2 highest/excellent on durability, #1 best in not scratching/hazing (removing swirls, best for dark colors). Have fun and if you find anything better (do a side by side comparison I did, #1-#3 didn't even compare to #18 or #26, it was like they were in totally different leagues) let the board know.

best regards - Brian

Mellow:
Any mention of Zaino in the report? If so, how'd they rank? I use it on Black, and like it, but I'm always open to new solutions and ideas.

Brian - thanks for the info! Just spent $23 last week for two types of waxes - NOT 1,2,3. Where is that sales slip????

Thanks MellowYellow
I've used the Nu Finish, and really like it.
Glad that it's in the top three

JohnS - no mention of Zaino...not sure why unless it is limited in sales volume bc of high price, although they listed the Zymol at $16/bottle (I found it at $12-yikes, the others were normal $5-6 each).....and Yes, I guess I am nuts about wax....the NuFinish is so smooth still at 1 week later, I can't stop rubbing the car (hell, maybe a genie will put out)! And I do know this....it is so much easier to wash and dry when waxed with a good wax!

Hey Brian,

Let's plan a get-together soon with some of the other Houston Prowler guys! Maybe we can wax our cars together or something (hehehe)! I'll email you soon with some sort of plan to meet again.

Oh yea,

Almost forgot to mention. I am a Zaino addict! Z1,Z2,Z6....Z2,Z6...repeat often. Can't get enough of the wild cherry smell of the Z6. And did you notice that the Z-12 Clear-View Glass Polish smells like bubble gum?

Oh well, I've made myself hungry, guess I'll check the fridge now!

Dodge, not Plymouth, puts out a wax called Mopar Cleaner Wax...This stuff is great. It was first gievn to me at a national Viper meet. You can order it from any Dodge dealer for about $8.00. It's a liquid. You can do the complete car then wipe it off. It's made for them by Maquire

The only thing I don't like about the #1 finisher is that it's a cleaner wax, meaning it has mild abrasives in it. Cleaner waxes only need to be used every so often in order to remove oxidation, stains, etc. A regular, non-cleaner wax should be used at all other times. Just my opinion.

And thanks for the tip on the #1 cleaner deal.

Glad you could make it.
