Will someone please tell me what "Cruise Night" is all about? It sounds like a real blast, but I don't think that's going on in my neck of the woods. Is there anything close to it in the northeast US? |

Here in Michigan, we call them "Cruise Nights". Many businesses around the local suburbs of Detroit and around the state host a car show at their facility one night of the week. We actually have a magazine that you can subscribe to called "Cruisnews". It lists all the places that hold cruise nights, including times and phone numbers. One of the bigger ones in this area is at a bowling alley called Continental Lanes. It's every Friday night in their parking lot. A lot of 50's type restaurants hold them also...Wooly Bully's, Ed's, A&W's, etc. etc. In Michigan, you can find up to 10 or more cruise places to go every night of the week. Cruise night season usually begins in May and continues through September/October, depending on the weather. They are a lot of fun. You meet a lot of new people and see a lot of great cars. We took Gary C. to a few of them while he was here for the Woodward Dream Cruise. If you don't have any in your area, try talking to some of your local restaurants. Some of them here offer discounts on food on their cruise nights. Some of them even have judging & trophies and prizes. Ask some of your local car clubs if they know of any cruise places! If you find some, go and see what it is all about. I find that most of them are pretty accepting of the Prowlers.......even though they are not the old, classic stuff. Still get lots of looks and questions! Have fun! |

Cruise night in Indianapolis, IN. We actually had cars at cruise spot on the last Friday night in Febuary this year. VERY UNUSUAL WARM WEEKEND It is cooling down now and will not be many more weeks of cruising in Indiana. Friday Night Sam's Club on East Washington Street. In the past we have had up to 400 cars and had to turn people way due to lack of space. Our loacl car club has made arrangements to use the lot, have a food vendor, electricity for us to use, sometimes a DJ, and HOT RODS of all kinds. Saturday night the usual is the SUD'S in Greenwood. It is an old A&W rootbeer stand. The owner lets us park there and all the lots around it. The owner of the grocery store cooks GREAT food and has picnic tables set up JUST FOR THE CRUISE NIGHTS CRUISE NIGHT STARTS WITH some car guys & gals making arrangements with business owners to use their parking lot and are willing to BEHAVE and keep the place clean. If you can get 10~20 cars together on a Friday or Saturday night when the weather permits and do this for a few weeks you will see more and more cars each week and it just snowballs. It helps to have veiw of the street to allow passerby's to see you and if they have a Hot Rod at home they might stop or just go home and get rod & come back. One thing that helps us and I have seen in other cities is policy. Walmart & Sam's Clubs are mandated by corporate to do community activity each month. We fulfill this for them and they just let us use the parking lot. It helps to have shopping and food close by for the people to have spouses & children that don't like cars and car talk. I love our cruise nights. Plan now for next year. Talk to local clubs and MAKE IT HAPPEN Start your own Cruise Night. ------------------ |
