I posted this on the Viper board tonight, but thought I would share my hair raising experience. Thank god for Depends........ I was driving my 96 GTS tonight, in traffic and in second gear. Started slowing down and all of a sudden, my car went WOT (wide open throttle)!!!!!! Scary as all hell!! I immediately put my foot on the clutch to keep from hitting the car in front of me. The car red lined with my foot off of the gas and clutch in. I immediately reacted by turning the key off. I started the car back up again WOT! Shut it down and started again and every thing was normal, except the gas peddle felt like it didn't have as much resistance as usual. I pulled over and disconnected all three plugs from the engine computer and waited about five minutes, started the car back up and continued driving to my destination and then back home. Every thing is normal now!!!! What the heck happened? Has anyone else ever experienced this?? ------------------ |

Mike, have had Vipers longer than Kats and have followed the Viper board for a long time, have never heard of this.....I am on my 2nd RT/10 , my daughter has a 97 GTS and my business partner has a 96 GTS he bought new, not counting numerous others I know of...When I saw your post my first reaction was the frame tore, there have been several of these reported, then I saw the WOT....glad you had your wits about you and saved the day... If anyone knows what it is, I am sure the Viper board will be the best place to find out fast !!! ------------------ |

Thank God you are O.K. If that car is totally stock (so they can't place blame on any aftermarket mods), I'd let DC know, have them check it out completely, and don't drive it till then. Anyway, glad you guys are o.k. |

Mike, We all wonder how we would react in a panic situation, I'm glad that you knew what to do! I hope that DC can help you find out what happened. I'm sure, you feel uneasy driving it untill you find out what caused this problem. Good luck, and drive safe. Carol |

Scary situation Mike...thank god no one was hurt.I have had three Vipers and yes it happened to me once on my 97 GTS coupe and never happened again. I passed it off that my floor mat might have gotten stuck on the pedal...This has happend to a few Viper owners...But who knows. ------------------ |
