Prowler Enthusiasts, First of all, Mike, "I LOVE THESE NEW MESSAGE ICONS"!! My friend borrowed my Prowler and just got a ticket from a traffic cop telling him my exhaust is too loud. The only way to have this ticket dismissed, is by going back to my original exhaust. I do not want to do this and I'm still thinking how I can get away with it when I have the police department check out my exhaust to dismiss the ticket. I'm thinking the cops that stopped my friend must of checked underneath the Prowler and saw not cats therefore thinking this is why the exhaust is too loud. I think this is what I'm going to use to try to get out of it. I will tell them that my cats are installed and this is what is sold over the counter. Many vehicles on the road are using these muffler pieces and I don't see everyone getting stopped and cited for it. Don't know what to do Later.... ------------------ |

In my younger days, I also recieved many tickets(23 in 2 years), some for loud exhausts....even got tickets with a new 68 GTO conv that had a bone stock exhaust...what I found out, even on the GTO, it was not what was legal or not legal on the car, it was what the driver was doing with the car...tickets in Indiana were for 'EXCESSIVE NOISE" so it was possible to get one with a stock car (which I did on more than one occasion)...never found a way to beat them except keep the RPMs down...On the other side, I drove(20 years later) a highly modified 69 Dodge Daytona 440 CI with open headers on the streets for 8 years, no ticket...today I drive a Viper with Headers, straight pipes and NOTHING ELSE, never even stopped...It has more to do with the style of driving than the legality of the exhaust system...at least in Indiana Y2K YELO X 3 GOOD LUCK |

Dan, according to a Sport Compact Car magazine article, the citation of loud exhaust is to the officers discretion. In court you could bring out the fact that he did not have a SPL meter and therefore could not really know the actual level of noise. I could not remember the exact level needed to be citated, but it could work. Good luck. ------------------ |

Guys, I guess that's why I love Florida. Every show I go to, we have full blown cars that are street driven. You could not even hear yourself talking 20 ft away. Frank |

Hey Dan... Pirana is absolutelt right, but each state varies, so try and find out legal limits in your state and get it tested prior to them looking at it. I'm pretty sure you won't have any problems after that. PaulR '99 Purple in Dallas |

When a cop writes a ticket for something like this, what he's really saying is "Gee I wish I had a car like that" When we pay a citation like that what we are saying is "Gee, I'll help you get one" Stop by a couple muffler shops and try to get a couple statements from them that the car isn't too loud - and definitely go to the court date and fight this one! Maybe the cop won't even show up, and if he does, make him prove the car is too loud. His "opinion" doesn't hold merit. It's just his opinion! |

I hate to tell you this but cops don't get a cut of the fine for any type of ticket written. Most cops are just going to ignore the loud exhaust unless you are driving recklessly or really speeding. Some cops are going to get you for whatever they can find because they are jerks. There are jerks in every walk of life just like most people are decent but there are always a few. i would go to court and say you didn't think it was too loud, but do your homework and find out what the local statute says is illegal. Chances are the cop doesn't know the exact db allowable and then you can ask to see how he measured the noise level. It is like speeding, he has to be able to prove it, not just express an opinion. There are jerk judges, too. Good luck. |

Hmm... 1) The COOLEST looking exhaust setup I've seen on a Prowler 2) Great sounding tone from what could be determined from the video files on Dan's awesome site 3) Ticket for "Too Loud Exhaust" That's 3 reasons for me to go ahead with this OBX setup! |
