When it becomes time to re-boot your cat, would you: 1. Again put Goodyear RunFlats on? 2. Spend half the $$$ for BF Goodrich T/A ZR SSS - considered by many to be the world's finest tire?

Hat Smasher - just put in your 2 cents worth and go to bed! I have 4300 miles. The question is which you would buy for the money? I got 65,000 miles on Toyota PU with BFG T/As.

I am planning on switching to the BF Goodrich tires within the next year. I am doing it due to the weight savings that non run-flats will give and for the difference and ride quality. When I removed the run-flats from my Corvette, I couldn't believe how much they weighed and how firm they were. So I feel that switching to the BF Goodrich non run-flat tires will definitely make a significant difference in ride quality and handling.

What do you do if your 40 miles from town and one blows?

Trey - You deserve a vacation. Make sure to take your POA T's and hat with you. Now, your question: What if you have a flat more than 50 miles away from service? Local Phx Prowler owner, has Dunlops on the front of his cat, so I asked him that question. He carries two cans of instant flat repair with him in the trunk, for emergencies. I could be in the middle of nowhere in Arizona or New Mexico, have a flat, and still be 100 miles away from service, or the type of newer machine to handle the big rims. Also, could use cell phone for tow truck. That is why I carry Emergency Road Service in my insurance coverage, in addition to the DC 1-800-service.

For those of you who are wondering about the tire cost figures - prices I've found so far on BF Goodrich:P225 -45R-17-Z rating = $182.00 each P295 -40R-20-101V = $292.00 each. These are listed as Comp T/A ZR SSS tires.

I would go with the BFG's, if they are lighter and ride better the runflats would not be an issue.

I would take the sensors out and loose some more weight.

Thanks Larry, My new Sparkel Prowler will have BFG's and no sensors.

Gary,
I was thinking the same as you. Simply scrap both the run-flats and the sensors. I cant even remeber the last time I had a flat, but just in case I were to get one, I would keep a couple cans of instant flat repair as someone previously mentioned. I've had BF Goodrich tires on my last 5 vehicles and I have had nothing but great results.

What about a tire repair kit. They cost less than $10 and don't take up much room. Then fill the tire with the pressurized can.

All positive comments. I had a '67 Firebird 400, that had a spacesaver spare and a large tank of air(?) or whatever was in it, that could fill two tires up. Wonder if they still produce extra large cans of pressure stuff like that? Spacesavers were kool, and look much better than the donut spares of today's autos.

I did some home work and found out the sensors are really not heavy enough to take out of the wheels, they weight ounces.

I have a friend in high places and he is going to give BFG a call and report back to us about the ZR's.

Now if the tire weights are 6,7 or 8 lbs difference that will be a huge difference in ride and performance. Unsprung weight is a 7 to 1 ratio.

Take 7 lbs off a wheel and tire equals about fifty lbs out the the car times four equals 200lbs.

That is a huge weight savings, I am still going to diet and do some running so I will be able to catch that little red head next year.

I stand corrected! Discount Tire Co. prices on Goodyear GS-D EMT run flat tires: P225/45vr17 = $272.00/each P295/40vr20 = $365.00/each

One of our Az Prowler owners, just put a pair of Goodyear Eagle HP on the rear of his cat. This the non-runflat version of the same tire-same thread design, same visual apperance, same size. Sidewall contraction is thinner and he said it drastically improved to a softer ride in the car. I will try to obtain prices on them, yet another option for us. Anyone want Firestone's on their cat????????

Total cost savings on BFG vs. GDY = $325.00, plus lighter weight and smoother ride. Anyone who eventually switches to BFGs, please give us a update report on your findings. Unless I loan out my car to Nyle, I'll have afew years to go before trying the BFGs out.

Hey Larry, I'll let you know next week I'm changing to the BFG's as soon as the tire shop can get them in. I still have a lot of donuts left in the old ones But would like the softer ride. Rev it up !
