Went into my local auto parts store and asked if they stocked Raybestos, they said yes and I gave them the part number. They had them in stock and were shocked at the price and asked what it was for. They said "Well that explains it" when I told them a Prowler. They expect the price to drop in the future. I paid $70 and installed them tonight. By the way, I used a screw driver with a rag wrapped around it to pop off the center piece of the rim. No problem. I also spray painted the rearend with the chrome paint. Looks good. Thanks for all the tips on here, you guys are GREAT. Intend to paint the bumpers and the piece of rubber on the front of the rear fender to match the car in the near future. |

Ed, Think it was easy doing it yourself? I saw where to remove the cover you discussed and had same idea. Never did brakes. Got a friend who has and can help, but its supposed to rain the next few days, figured I could do it during that as well as have time to really polish the back rims and wheel wells Thanks |

In all seriousness, the toughest part was trying to get a floor jack under the side of the car. I finally drove up on a couple of 2 x 4's, popped off the center cap, removed the lugs, removed the wheel, removed two metric bolts from the back of the caliper, slid the caliper off (watch where you set it so you don't scratch the paint) Take out the bigger pad first, then the smaller one that is lodged in the piston, open the master cylinder to more easily push the piston back into the caliper, (which is simple) put the new pads in (smaller one first) and put it back together. Takes maybe 20 minutes per side. You need no skill whatsoever. The only tools you need are a jack, 2 screwdrivers and rags, Lug Wrench, and I think it was a 9 mm socket. Could be 8 or 10mm. I have about 8000 miles on my cat and the pads were not very worn for all the darn dust that I have washed and wiped off. I cleaned the inside of the rim, only one since the other one was just replaced last week, due to a peeling chrome problem. Nothing tough about the job, no hard physical labor, nothing technical at all. Good luck. The best part is I went for a little prowl and the rims were clean when I came home. First time that ever happened. [This message has been edited by ed monahan (edited 07-27-2000).] |

Sounds good! Ill probably have my buddy over to help. Ever since I got into computers, I can barely tell the difference between a phillips and regular. ------------------ |

Can you still tell the difference between regular and light beer? If you can, then you are still okay. |

Yeah, I can Although I prefer Jack Daniels and after enough of that I cant tell dark beer from water, but thats another conversation Actually, I was talking to the body guy and he is going to clean the light rust from the front rotors and paint it to match the rear rotors aluminum colors, SO, I said "hey, long as the rotor is off" and thats that Two birds with one stone as they say ------------------ |
