Lets see if we (including me) leave the politics out of this one. I received this email from Amanda today on Curtis's condition.

Hi John,
Instead of posting on the board I just wanted to let you know about dad.
He was admitted back into the hospital last night. they gave him 2 pints of blood to try to raise his blood levels because they were very very low, and they also gave him some platelets this morning. His body didnt do so well with the platelets and it caused him to break out in hives (like father like daughter). they gave him benedryl for the hives and have him on antibiotics via iv. he thinks he will be there for at least a couple of days. we really dont know if all this is just a "normal" reaction to the chemo or if he is getting worse.
he is in good spirits. i talked to him for a while this morning. he's just tired of being sick.
i didnt tell him i was going to write you but i will give you the number to his room in case you feel like saying hello. i'm planning to fly up there this month.

I will keep the number off as to let him rest when he can.

I'm sad to read the report that Curtis is back in the hospital, but atleast the doctors can get a better idea of what his body is reacting to there.
Curtis - keep your spirts up,,,,you are still in our thoughts and prayers.

I just got off the phone with my dad. He sounds good. He is a fighter that is for sure!
The doctors are not too concerned with his pneumonia. Sounds like it may be par for the course. They are pumping him full of antibiotics and potassium, also getting 2 more pints of blood through the night.
He wanted to know what was going on on POA. I read him your posts. He always gets a kick out of hearing from all of you. I also told him about the auction, he thought that was pretty neat. Said he didnt know what he was going to do about people giving him money but I told him that if that is what someone wants to do then he cant disrespect them by refusing it. I dont know that he is used to anyone giving him anything. Dont be surprised to receive a Thank You telephone call from him if you send him a card to say hello.

We dont know when he will be released from the hospital. This may be something that I will have to get used to, him going in once or twice a week. They said it may be a year before he starts to feel like himself again (just in time for my wedding) so i wont let him get out of that one!

Thanks again for all your support. As I have said in the past I truly believe in the power of energy and good energy going his way cant hurt. I am flying to northern california at the end of the month. Was thinking of going sooner but my sister said she thinks he is ok. I will be happy to see him in person. and maybe I could give him a ride in his car if he is up to it..

I just talked to dad this morning. They are going to keep him for another 3-4 days to try to get his blood counts to come up. It appears that all of his symptoms that he is having is due to his low blood counts which is a result of the chemo and the fact that the lymphoma is pretty dominate throughout his whole body.

It looks like he will be going in once a week from now on to get a blood count test, at which point they can give him a transfusion as an outpatient and he can avoid having long stays in the hospital.

Actually got to see Curtis today, with Kathy and another of his daughters Shelley. Was in good spirts and overwhelmed with all your kind thoughts. He hopes someone gets a good deal on those tips and plenum plugs.. . As far as hospitals go, that is a great place to be in. Guess he has a few more days to go there, then back every ten days or so. We talked and in general he is pretty up beat. Going back tonight.

Way to go JD

Sometimes giving of yourself (i.e. your time) is of far greater value than any other currency. Give Curtis my best as well.

Glad to hear that he is in good spirits! Having a positive attitude in the face of adversity can be as important as the medications and treatments that one may receive.

We will continue to keep him in our thoughts and prayers!

Patty and I went to see Curtis tonight.

We think we can go for the next few days, so I bore everyone with posts each time we go. This may be it for a few days.

But wanted to say to all he is in good spirts, not sleeping all the time anymore. Has some pain, but is getting meds for it. And Patty can make anyone happy with her sense of humor and outlook on life, so we had a great visit with laughs and smiles. Curtis has lots of stories too, he use to run cars at the drags for a lot of years, a old gear head. Going to try to get him come with me somehow, sometime soon

Thanks for all the emails, pms and calls. He appreciates all your thoughts.

I dont think you'll have to twist his arm too hard jd. He loves drag racing. Been racing since the 60s, helped me build my race car in high school and I spent most of my teen years following him around the strip but I'm sure he told you lots of stories about those days.
If there is NHRA racing this weekend and he's still in the hospital he's going to be mad because they dont get ESPN2!
