I've apparently decided to become the unofficial POA weatherdude. I guess being stressed out for 5 weeks waiting to get walloped by a category 4 or 5 hurricane makes you do strange things Here is the latest: Hurricane Ivan is currently a category 5 hurricane with sustained winds of 160mph, gusting to 195 to 200mph (almost as fast as a Prowler) It looks (for the time being) like landfall will be somewhere in the western Florida panhandle, although I've heard reports saying as far west as Mobile, AL. While I'm relieved that those of us in central Florida appear to be "out of the woods" for now, I wouldn't wish this thing on anyone. Maybe we can all wish into some unpopulated portion of Texas Here's the latest satellite photo (this thing is near perfect as hurricanes go), along with two of the latest forecasted tracks (one from weather.com and the other from noaa.gov) Good luck to all of us. This thing could land just about anywhere. One good push from the west and central Florida is back in it's sights yet again

Buck--looks like the horsey set in your neck of the woods will dodge the bullet as the storm heads in further west. Bet there are lots of nervous owners and breeders watching the path. Good luck to the panhandle, bama , sippy and La folks.

Thanks for the concerns. but we left Mand and relocated over to my Dad's house and my daughter's house. We're lucky and the storm has missed us and is really targeting Mobile and the Pensacola area... That's the home base for Jesse (C-Bigred). We're hoping for the best for them riding out the storm... Ken O. is also in that area of FL.------------------

The latest heard here, (10pm) showed Ivan still about 65-100 miles offshore still, starting a NNE turn. The rain gauge at a high school in Pensacola that sends info to us was blown away after 19"+ of rain. Our forcaster says that the storm will stall out in the Tennesee valley between Atlanta and Chatanooga for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Lots of folks are going to flood in this one.

There are saying it hit land at Mobile. This looks like a really bad one. I hope everyone down there is safe.

Now they are talking about another hurricane (I think they are calling it Jeanne) that is headed FL way, just not supposed to be a major category.

Many downed trees & huge limbs in our neighborhood--one huge limb fell on a house across & 2 door down from us--WOW! Many traffic lights OUT between home n base...guess I better go back while it's still light out! Mo' later/2moro!

Predictions for Jeanne are further up the Eastern seaboard. Of course, these are the same folks that said Ivan was headed right for Miami. (and one wonders how come they can predict global warming 100 years from now yet can't figure out the weather for today....)

Be careful out there. Glad to hear you've escaped major damage. That was an ugly storm. I was gettin' a bit aggravated with this hurricane thing myself (I'm in central Florida) until Ivan - rather remarkably I moved here 8 months ago from Daphne,AL - right on the eastern shore of the Mobile Bay. I'd have gotten creamed. Suddenly the relatively minor damage we suffered from Charley and Frances seems like a pretty good deal
