Most people don't know how Datsun got its name; it came from the Germans.See, the Japanese developed and built this car, but couldn't figure out what to call it; they wanted a catchy distinctive name that would capture the world's attention. Someone in the company thought the Germans had a knack for naming things so they contacted a firm from Berlin to discuss the matter. The Japanese presented the car and explained their vision for the company; the Germans were impressed with the product and said they could come up with a good name. Then they asked what the deadline was. The Japanese guys said they were very eager to get started and wanted a name immediately. The Germans looked at each other; one said: "Dat Soon." And the rest is history.

Talking about prickly pear cactus. Down here we make jelly from the pears of the plant (tuna) and even wine. The baby leaves( napol) can be fried and mixed with eggs. No stickers when they are young. Stay tuned, and our next food ideas we talk about green chile Norm can cook show. This message has been edited by pumpkin on 08-26-2005 at 10:48 AM

I also understand on the early Models you could read what brand bear cans they used to produced the car bodies, in the engine compartment and fire wall.

Jim, you could only do that for the first month of their existence, before they rusted out completely.

Bought my wife a new 280ZX in 1983!! It DID rust out Ed, after 20 years and 250,000 miles....the car is still running as we speak....she sold it after our divorce in '95. Too bad more cars aren't as good!! (incidently...she has a C5 now)

what some don't know is that "Datsun" came to America in the early-mid 60s..... and then 'later' uh... "Became" ... Nissan. However, the truth is that Datsun was the name used only in the US for the Nissan Company....because when they came over in the 60s there were still too many WWII vets around that knew that NISSAN was (one of, if not 'the') builder of the bomb at Pearl Harbor.....
