Good bye - good luck - good riddance!

Looks like former assistant and Murray State coach Mick Cronin and Charlotte's Boby Lutz are being talked about as replacements.

Bob-

He is/was the basketball coach at U. Cinn. He was asked to resign yesterday through a letter that others got while he was out of town.

I know that Ed is a Bearcat fan, a local kid plays there and a few of us on POA are college basketball fans.

U.C. hired a new female president last year. She wants to upgrade the entire university. She feels not enough basketball players were graduating. She wants smarter players.
Huggins has been here about 16 or 17 years and has made it to the NCAA tourney 14 in a row, I think. They made the Final Four in his third year. They probably would have won a few years ago except the star broke a leg in the league tournament. Huggins has had problems with some of his players, to say the least.
Before he came, U C basketball was a joke for about 20 years.
The locals are about 90 % behind him and 10 for her.
The timing was horrible, to say the least. It was handled very poorly. They cleaned out his office last night and took his stuff to his house, supposedly.
Mick Cronin has had a few skeletons in his closet, also. There was a story about violations in SPORTS ILLUSTRATED with the past year.
People are really hot about this. It is right up there with the Pete Rose debacle.
He had some of Bobby Knights faults but he got the job done, too.
It is really going to hurt the program and they start playing in the Big East this year. Good luck with that.

This is a case where an expert at what he does inherits a new boss who knows nothing about his job nor how to do it; The UC program is in for some serious deterioration which will take years to overcome. The kids who are recruited to play basketball at Division 1 level couldn't care less about Isosceles triangles or hypotenuses. all they care about is honing their jump shots, and behind the back pass skills. Probably the closest they get to a library is driving by it when going up/down the street. Their main objectives are eventually making it to the NBA. They do not worry about grammar and presentation. Now that Ms. "Hot Pants" has dispensed with Mr. Huggins, it will be exciting to see how fast UC's cash flow suffers as mediocrity once again surface. Now, UC will have no sport that produces positive cash flow. Where are you Sandy Koufax?

A good regular season won/loss record does not make a coach an expert. I don't care for Huggins style of coaching. I experienced one of his tirades first hand about 8 years ago at a practice session before a conference tournament game at Freedom Hall. The UC program is high profile enough they will find a good coach - one that hopefully will respect to the University and the basketball program.

If Louisville ever hired Huggins to coach the Cardinals I would cease being a Louisville Basketball fan.

I have to agree with Marty. I'm not anti-Cincy, they're close by... nut I've never been a Huggins fan. I applaud their President. Sort of wish UK had one as strong as that... coming off football probation our new AD withheld past NCAA sanctions about the incoming coach from the Prez, all he did was slap his hand... and we're still reeling from the sanctions... new court case just this week accusing past AD's and coaches of being in on the inproprieties. They should have cleaned house when they had the chance, the the new AD should have never had his contract signed after withholding that NCAA info...

Its hard to feel sorry for anyone that gets fired and 3 millions dollars to hold them over.

Again, Hugs is not a saint or a genius. He has some of Bobby Knight's traits.
He got a DUI last year. If she was going to fire him, she should have done it then instead of letting things go from bad to worse for a year. The local news poll was 87 % that UC will be hurt by his firing, 13 % said it will help.

Sandy Koufax played basketball and baseball at U.C. I think he had a basketball scholarship. He was very wild as a pitcher back then. He overcame that, to say the least. Hall of Fame even though he only played a few years.

I saw Koufax pitch 3 times at UC. He could throw a ball almost through the backstop; but had trouble locating it. By the way, his last year in the bigs, he pitched 27 complete games. Nowadays you don't 27 complete games a season from the entire Staff.

There might not be 27 complete games in the entire league. I don't know if the REDS have had one yet. They did not have one as of the end of July.
They named an *** 't coach as the interim coach today. Press conference WITHOUT the Univ. President or the Athletic Director in attendance. Think this isn't a high class operation. Unreal.
