I know some of you are avid collectors. I have a bid of 85 K on a Hemi cuda Conv Clone. Do you think that is too much.? Have they risen beyond recooping my investment.? ALL Input is welcome. Mike |

I have seen some advertised in the $150-180K range.... my opinion(which ain't worth much)....if and when the collector market cools off, the clones will be the first to take a dump....all the years I did classic auto appraisals, I always valued clones as a sum of the parts value, minus depreciation, and very little for labor....they have no intrinsic collector value because there is no finite number to be accounted for....also, there is no true way to determine what the car was made out of to start with...is a HEMICUDA clone made from a 383 conv worth more than a clone made from a 6cyl conv....it really gets confusing... there could potentially be hundreds or thousands of HEMICUDA clone convertibles....no one would ever know an exact number making values somewhat difficult to maintain.... my personal opinion, go for the real cars, buy cheaper Muscle Cars, but get REAL CARS...they should continue to appreciate, or at least be stable in a soft market...and the market will soften at some point in time, it always does... the flip side, if you have unlimited funds and the potential loss is of no consequence, get a clone, drive the pizz out of it and just write it off as one of those great experiences in life that didn't make you any $$$, but was a blast while it lasted... the 'real thing'.................

I have to agree 100% with Larry, my buddy builds them here and gets $130,000. But what you get is a car you can drive and have a great time with, they don't overheat, they run on pump gas and entire drive train is new, puts power steering and real brakes in them. Now if you bought the real deal you would not want to drive it all the time and would spend more time washing it than driving it. I will add there is nothing like driving a HEMI, but I will also add the real deal will overheat, not run on pump gas, really don't handle well and stopping gets to be a challenge at times. BUT WHAT A RIDE. Now if you want a Cuda talk to fixum the AAR he has is a great buy you will not get hurt on. ------------------ |

...I owned the first HEMI Challenger ever made, hand built factory prototype....the car was better than new....it accelerated like stink in a straight line as long as the tires could hold it...idled well, cornered like an overweight hippo, etc etc.....and, it was as good as any HEMI could be... ....but, it was nose heavy, hard to stop and got 4 1/2 miles per gallon on the highway with 4.10 gears....the 2-4 bbls like to drink gas ...I remember taking it to a car show about 60-70 miles from my house....I left home with a nearly full tank, had to fill it up before I entered the show grounds, and had to stop and fill it again on the way home....It was the only car I ever truly knew of that you could watch the gas gauge drop while driving....it never stopped moving ....but all the crap aside....NOTHING, NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING sounds like a HEMI....NOTHING....people would crowd around the HEMI Challenger several deep just to hear the HEMI at idle .... |

Thank you Larry, Bob and Chris I am bidding on the pink Clone, I just think it would be a hoot to drive ! I want to enjoy it and I realize it is not " the real deal." What I am trying to figure out( being 50 years old) and having seen the vettes 427 435 correct themselves years ago.... is will these cudas take a correction and then I would have to wait 10 years to get back to waht I paid for it? Larry , you hit the nail on the head! How many are there out there? How many are going to be made? I thinkif I can get it for 90K or less I will never get hurt. And have a blast driving it!! Thanks Gents Mike |

I agree totally with Larry I value his opinion highly.I have owned cars with hemi (stock 426)and 383 mag.in same body style and truth is 383 is quicker in 1/8 mile.I also relize the name Hemi.adds value. For me $60,000.00 would be my limit, but to each his own. |
