You are spot on. I think you definitely get more bang for the buck with a Road King. I fell for the new Deluxe softail appearance. Looking back on it, I wish I would have got the Road King. JMO

Go with the King.

Chromer,
I liked the looks of your bike as well, a friend of mine fell in love with it, but I'm with ya I think I'll have to stick to the Road King Custom.

OK Don I have never seen a trailer like that, I bought the Kendon single and am ever glad I did, I can hook it to my weekender and tow at 90 MPH and do not even know it is there.

As far as other brands of bikes, I have owned several smaller ( 850 CC or less )imports as at the time it was all I could afford, my first BIG Bike was a Yamaha Venture Royal and I will admit that thing rode like a million bucks, never broke down, would go 130 with 2 people on it and you could sit in the seat for a entire day and not be sore. I sold the bike and quit riding for 4 years after a mishap with a Semi Truck, up until that point I would ride every day back and forth to work and travel on them. I think the Venture in 3 years got about 40,000 miles put on it. My dad convinced me to go to Daytona bike week with him and I used one of his Harleys and I was hooked.

I bought my first new Harley in 98 and I still own the bike! I have also bought several new and several used Harleys since and enjoyed everyone of them. My riding habits have changed and the Harley is my only option for a bike. I now will only ride county rodes and 2 lane Highways and if I do travel on a bike if I do 350 miles in 1 day I am happy.

Oh ya my 98 Springer is the last of the old frame 80 EVO bikes and the girls all love going for a ride, they have nick named it the PANTY SHAKER. And yes it is a good thing.

Still in the market. I did go over to the local Victory store and liked what I saw. Also looking at a used Goldwing here in town but the miles are pretty high on it.

This one would match a yellow Prowler nicely.

Having has a bunch of Harley's but never riding very much I sold my custom Road King about 5 years ago.
Got the "bug" again but since the same applies, (don't ride very much, perhaps 500 miles a year)
I bought (wholesale) a 2000 Yamaha Road Star.
Shameful knock off of a Fat Boy but a 4K mile bike
(MY 2000) with about 3K worth of chrome and extras, I paid only $6500 for a perfect bike a month ago.
If you didn't look at the dash you would swear you were riding a Harley, the nice part is that it's parked on a carpeted garage floor, AND NO OIL LEAKS!

36,000 miles on a Goldwing is nothing. It is barely broken in. They are good for 200,000 no sweat.
The price may be a little high, since you can get a 2006 in a couple of months for about $17,000.

I have a Custom Harley Dyna Wide Glide for in town riding and love it. Looks great and I get a bunch of thumbs up. This spring I purchased a 2005 Ultra Classic. What a bike. I've always been a Harley guy so buying it was a no brainer. Next spring my buddy and I are going to take about a six week ride along the old Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA. More than 80% of the old, original road is still out there and I aim to ride on as much as I can. The Dyna just wouldn't do for a trip of this kind but the Ultra will fit the bill. By the way buy a new one and accesorise it as you want. New Harleys now have a two year warranty.

OK, since everyone else has put their bikes on display, here's my latest. I've owned all kinds of bikes over the last 42 years, but I've come to like Triumphs the best of all. Here's the two I currently have. The Rocket III is only two months old and goes for $15,990 MSRP. With a 2300cc motor, there's not much out there that can run with it, and you can add all the traditional accessories for long haul riding.
