I was reading some of the posts on Larry M's topic "Sign in for Crazy Horse". Some of you were discussing hotels and the security issue.

Just thought I would share this idea with you. I heard about it on the Hot Rod Power Tour chat board.

Someone was telling us that he bought a set of inexpensive baby monitors. He placed one inside the car and the other next to the bed in the hotel room. He claimed that he could hear people while they were walking around his car and could hear them talking. He figured that if anyone was messing with his car, he would be able to hear it!

I thought it was a very interesting idea! Simple, but effective!?

Good idea, but I'm sleeping in Ed's room and placing him outside to guard our cats during the night!

If Ed falls asleep, his snoring will wake up JimS, and he will take over the duties.

What kind of range do they have? It's a good idea if the range is enuff.

You would have to check the monitors at a store, JP......I'm sure the range differs. This guy claims it works great!

It seems that the baby monitors are now being used for a multitude of different things. We have a neighbor up at our lake cottage who has her 80+ mother that lives with them. For medical reasons, she needs to be able to hear her at night, so she uses the monitors and it seems to work very well for them.

those monitors work off of regular AC house current. Are there battery operated ones out there? We would only need one set since the alarm would go off on the car being tampered with and be picked up by the monitor inside another car.

Ed - I'm disappointed, no comment about my above post?

Anybody check with the hotel management, maybe they have nightly security anyway? Probably not, as they know we are not a rowdy bunch like the Corvette clubs.

The transmitter for the one we have for little Max is not battery powered, but the reciever is. The input is 9V DC though so I assume you could get a cigarette adapter that outputs 9V and use it.

Sasquatch, I offered the use of the mobile waterbed to everyone and I think it would be better is you slept outside in the wild, anyway. That is my best comeback, at this point.
