Recently, several people have asked me why their name is not showing up when they use the "Viewing Who Is Online" feature and why are they just showing up as a Guest! You need to make sure that you are using a cookie-enabled browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.

Here's what you do to correct the situation:

Go to the Board Main Page (the page that lists all the forums). In the top r-hand corner, click on preferences.

In answer to the question about saving your name and password, click yes (that way you don't have to enter it every time you want to post a topic or post on a thread). On the next question, re: the UBB code, check Full. Then hit submit. Go back to the Board Main Page and go into the Test forum. Post a topic.....can just be something silly like Hi! and in the text box put anything...like a ? or hi or whatever. Submit the topic. This should set everything up. Go back to the Main page again and see if you show up in the Who's Online section.

I believe that I am correct on this, as the most recent person that asked me tried it and said that it works fine now.

Mike, Tony, Tony....if I have forgotten anything else they need to do, please post it here!

CJ,

That method works most of the time, but if it doesn't, here is a sure fire way to fix your cookies: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/faq.html#lostcookies

Thanks, Mike.........now how do I get this to work? I still can't fix it?

What is the NewsFader
when the NewsFader is turned on it will display, at the top of the main forums page, any news announcements, special events, and also the latest newest member. This is a good tool for the ProwlerOnline Administrators to keep you informed of major announcements. Look for Chat schedules and new feature announcements.

CJ,
What can't you get to work?

The NewsFader is located on the Main Discussion Forums page right near the top, just above Geeneral Discussion...it says News there in the purple bar. See it? I will cycle through items at a set interval. You'll see Mike makes GREAT use of it already.

I understand where it is, VM........mine doesn't work! Bob has a separate computer here at home and it works on his. We have a computer at the cottage and it works there. It has never worked on mine! Don't know why and don't know how to get it to work. Mike emailed me once some info on enabling the Javascript and I tried that. Still doesn't work, unless I'm not understanding what I have to do with that. Any ideas?

Hmmmm, very interesting! What do you see there? Is there a spot for it, but it just doesn't show up? IS the area wide enough for it to show if it worked, or is it completely missing?

Yep, Tony, there is the space for it, same as Bob's. There just isn't anything appearing or cycling through it. I have right-clicked on it. Tried refresh...nothing.

Under properties it reads:

Protocol: HyperText Transfer Protocol

Type: HTML document

Connection: Not encrypted

Address: http://www.prowleronline.com/cgi.gin/ultimate.cgi

Again, I don't know if my Javascript is set correctly, but I don't have any trouble with anything else. If it wasn't, isn't there other things that wouldn't work? I sure would love to figure out why it isn't......it's become a challenge, you know?

Help!!
