Mike, as you know I don't know Jack S*** about computers so I am asking a legit question. Why did we need to switch servers again.? I thought you just upgraded last Jan. or so. Along the same lines, when people have a 5 inch long description of their mods and post it EVERY time they post, does that eat up a lot of space or does it not make any difference since it is already on the server? Does that cause slower loading times for dial-up users? I do not know the answers, and that is why I am asking.Again, keep up the good work. This is the best site going and my only life. lol

I don't think we are switching servers, just upgrading and my guess it is easier to do that without the site on it. Moving to a temporary would at least not interrupt the site any more than necessary? Since this is your only life, Ed.........what would you do if the site was down for a while?

Ed,CJ pretty much summed it up (we spoke about the upgrade yesterday). Unfortunately, servers (just like home PC's) need to be patched and programs and operating systems need upgrading. The main purpose was to make the server more secure against hackers, add more storage capacity, keep our data safe and to make server management easier to accomplish. The temporary server we are running on is nearly identical to the one we originally purchased and has all the new programs and upgrades on it. We worked with it prior to putting it online, but missed a few kinks that we are currently experiencing. Due to patching security the holes, some of our programs are not totally backwards compatible. Had we upgraded our server live online, without using the temporary server everyone would have experienced outages and many more problems. On the surface the POA server seems to just do things seamlessly, but in the background, it has many programs running on it that all need to interact and is quite complex. I believe that the few minor glitches that have occurred over the past couple of weeks were worth the course of action that we decided to take. Thank you all for your patience!

Good one, Bob!Regarding Ed's point about our "signatures", could someone please clarify? If I'm part of the problem (by adding my signature to all my posts - except this one) then I can certainly change my habits. Of course I could have avoided all this if I would have been like Ed, and remained totally stock (lol). (Ed, you KNOW I'm kidding you buddy...) Kevin

Ed.... it's the same thing we do to your car when you aren't looking.... Right now, you are actually driving a "temporary" Prowler...

I was not concerned about the "temporary" server or the middle of the night shut downs. I was asking about the "big Picture". Are we creating problems that could be avoided without all the super long signatures being posted at the end of every post on some threads. I did not know if we were getting way too big, too quickly. I understand the need for constant msintenance and vigilance. I was wondering if we needed to head something off at the pass. Do they slow down the POA server? If so, maybe we could back off on that phase a little. If not, then no big deal.

I'm on dialup. The straight text signatures like mine are not a problem with length and loading. The longer they are, the only problem is extra scrolling needed. The signatures that have pics in them, like a banner, and/or a mod list scrolling or changing does slow me down. Large pictures slow me down, as do threads with many pics, when placed in posts, and things like loading a mini-view media player clip lock me up. (I can't go to the thread earlier posted, something about, "Do you like this song?") Posting the link would be easier in this case.------------------ Mickey 1997 Plymouth Prowler #156 Custom car cover Mopar front splash guards Real Rod stainless steel transmission cooler cover Mopar Trailer hitch and harness Real Rod weekender Infinity Kappa 63.5i door speakers Polished aluminum upper front end support (gift) 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE Leather steering wheel cover Longhorn scratches Boomerschlobber
