Hey all,,,, Please i'm very interested in buying a Ram Rumble Bee truck (in yellow) has any one owned a Ram 1500??? Can you give me any input? good and bad? This will be a daily driver. And it's got a HEMI baby!!!!!

Will I be able to drive this in the rain??? Take it snowboarding with tire chains???

Dose the Hemi require premium gas? at $2.79 a gallon and 14-17 MPG. I'll get a Diesel instead.

THANKS!!! Gabe Z.

I had a 2003 Ram Quad Cab with a Hemi and 20 inch wheels which requires a 3.92 limited slip rear. It does not require Premium, in fact the recommend you do not use it but to use mid grade. Around town I would get between 12 to 14 mpg. It's hard not to lean on that Hemi. I got about 18 to 20 mpg on the highway except when pulling my 24 foot enclosed trailer. Then I would only get 8.5 to 10 mpg but that was pulling at 70 mph or more. Rain is not a problem. I can't say about snow, we don't get much in Georgia. We now have a 2004 Durango with a Hemi.

I would recommend four wheel drive if your going to be driving in the snow alot, but you can get by with a 2 wheel drive. Just throw a couple hundred pounds of sand bags in the back in winter and just know your limits. As far as known problems, the 02 and 03's have a tsb for warped brake rotors. There is a design flaw in the calipers that warps the front rotors. This is mostly a problem with trucks with the 20's but it has affected some people with 17's. I'm not sure if this problem has been fixed on the 05's but I have heard of people having problems with the 04's. It is covered under warranty till 12k miles and if the problem is documented within the 12k then they have to keep fixing them if the problem continues. I have 20k miles on mine and I'm on my third set of calipers, pads, and rotors. Other than that I've had no problems with mine. I highly recommend the Rams, this is my second one and I will buy another in the future. A good site to check out is http://www.dodgetalk.com There is alot of very knowledgeable and helpful people on there that can answers any questions you might have.

To bad they don't make it in a long bed, a real truck IMO. What's the use of a short bed truck?..

Anyway, I have a 03 long bed with truck boxes on the side and a saddle box behind the window. Have taken it in the snow many times across the Donner Pass, and Central Nevada. Easy to put chains on and off.

Truck is a beast, spin the tires whenever I want, all the way up to running at 50 mph and flooring it with a empty bed. Has plenty of power.

John, some people buy a truck for WORK, others buy it to PLAY.

I for one loved my shortbed truck for driving and plowing snow, but for work and hauling nothing beats a Longbed, unless you need to turn around or park in these super short narrow parking spaces they are making now

My `95 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with extended cab and 8' bed is great on the road, but a little tough to drive around town and to the store..........and for those thinking of a diesel. I LOVE MINE, but I doubt I would by another one and here is why.

Diesel is $2.24 a gallon right now in Indiana
the diesel option is over $4,000
I have 83,000 miles on my `95
12 quarts of oil and a $10 oil filter
How many miles do you have to drive to recover the $4,000 investment?

Now if you are going to be on the road alot and need the power of the diesel it is a great option

if you are going to drive it around town, DIESELS DO NOT LIKE THAT, they need to be started and driven, short trips are hard on a diesel because they never get completely warmed up

my 2 cents

and if anyone wants a new Ford vehicle I can get you Xplan same as Friends & Family from DC

Gabe, I have a Dodge Ram 2500 4-door 4x4 with the HEMI. My truck does not require premium (thankfully). It holds approx. 29 gallons and the very best that I have ever gotten on the highway was 12.5 mpg. Normally in town I get around 10.3 mpg. The computer in the truck tells you all of that info. With this truck it doesn't matter if it is fully loaded or empty & 50 - 85 mph. It all registers the same. With all of that info. I can still tell you that this is 1 bad a-- truck. I was coming home from Miami and reached speeds up to 108 mpg and the truck had plenty left on the pedal.

Gabe, The old saying is true here "If you can afford the truck you can afford the gas". Go for it. You wont regret it.

I have a 2004 Quad cab 1500 w/ the 4.7l V8.

I decided on that engine because it really is peppy and it get's ALOT better gas mileage.

Nothing wrong with the hemi, just didn't see the need for it.

Firegabe.........just a piece of history......the original Rumble Bee was an idea brainstormed at our kitchen table with Larry Weiner of Performance West. Larry built the Rumble Bee for Bob for last year's SEMA show....the original is blue and it is supercharged! Got to drive it for a week.......it's awesome!
