Two female Italian hostages in Iraq who were recently released, Simona Pari and Simona Torretta, urged their government to remove their troops from Iraq and said they support the terrorists! quote: "Guerrilla warfare is legitimate, but I am against the kidnapping of civilians," Simona Torretta, who speaks Arabic and was already based in Iraq before Saddam Hussain was ousted, told Italian daily Corriere della Sera. "You have to distinguish between terrorism and resistance - I said it before and I repeat it today," she added. Ms Torretta went on to describe Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's administration as "a puppet government in the hands of the Americans".
A lot of Italians are hopping at these people, whom they expected to show more solidarity with others who have been taken hostage or even beheaded. In other European news, 200,000 Dutch protested in Amsterdam to oppose the government's "austerity" program. The "austerity" in question? Plans include raising the work week from 36 hours to a brutal 40, and raising the retirement age from 55 to 65. (I checked on the Netherland's economic growth rate in 2003. It was -0.7%). No offense to any Euro-Prowlers on this board, but is everyone "across the pond" freaking nuts?

Actually this is a very common occurrence for people who are kidnapped. Remember Patty Hearst? It happens all the time, actually. Weird, but true.

I wonder what their families would have said if they had not been released, but beheaded instead?
