.....Submitted for your approval.....

...as many of you already know, a couple of weeks ago I purchased a '68 GTO conv. at Auburn that is exactly like one I owned 36 years ago, EXACTLY LIKE IT !!!....that has been quite an odd feeling in itself the last 2 weeks, just driving the car...well, the story took another Twilight Zone twist today....

....this morning I had an appointment to get the GTO serviced, checked out, and a couple of minor things taken care of at a local garage....so I called one of my stores to have someone pick me up at the garage and drop me at home...the regular manager was out of town at another of my stores and the assistant manager said she would send the "new lady" to get me.....I don't know many of my employees on sight so this was nothing unusual.....45 minutes later I am still waiting and she finally shows up(she had been waiting at the wrong place).....

...so, after kidding her about not knowing where to pick me up or what I even looked like we drove on down the street....I asked her a few questions about her kids, family etc etc(small talk)....I told her about buying the 1968 GTO to replace the one I had so many years back, and she told me her late husband and her also had a GTO many years ago.....I told her my old 1968 GTO was purchased in the spring of 1969 by people that lived in a certain house on a certain street, and she got a very strange look on her face and said "well, I lived there then", I told her the GTO used to be parked alot at a certain address after I sold it, and she looked even more stunned and said " well, that was my sisters house".... I asked her what her last name was 35 years ago, turns out the new employee I met today was the same lady that bought my original GTO some 35 years ago from the dealer I traded it in to in 1969....she was speechless and so was I....

....35 years ago, they bought my original GTO... today, I meet her in person for the first time ever after dropping off the replacement GTO for service........at first she didn't really remember the car very well, there was a divorce going on about the same time and she didn't ride in the car but a few times....a few months after purchasing the GTO, her husband destroyed the car and was seriously injured in the accident.....end of the original GTO...

....I think Rod Serling was standing on the corner as we drove by....

Have we all not had at least ONE unusual [similar] tale to tell? I'll try to make this short. Many years ago I worked with a guy named John--we were both in the USAF. He retired, eventually I retired. We both worked as civilians at same Base. Hadn't seen John in 10 or 12 years, but I was TDY to HAHN AB in Germany...a very remote Base off the beaten path, even in Germany. One Saturday I went to a remote shoppe downtown--saw someone inside who looked familiar! 'John?' Yes! 'Ken?' Yes! So many miles away from the USA we see each other after so many years--not in downtown Montgomery or even the Base we both still worked at~yup, strange happenings! Small World as CJ poses...

Hey Tytanium, I was stationed at Hahn Air Base (2184th Com) from 1972-1976 and played with the Hahn Hawks football team. When were you there?

Tytanium.....

....I was sent overseas in 1971....stationed at CCK Airbase, Taichung Taiwan,....first day we land in Taipei, I am walking down the street amazed by all the bars and the 13 year old hookers , still carrying my luggage when I hear someone yell "Hey, Bell"...it was a kid I had graduated from highschool with....we were good buddies, even as kids....he was there for a few days on R&R from "in country" and I was just arriving at my new assignment.....what were the chances....

I went to grade school and high school with Paul Conners. He was not even slightly athletic so naturally the Army made him some type of telephone line repairman and he had to climb telephone poles. We thought this was hilarious.
I got drafted May 21, 1965 and he got drafted 4 weeks later, as I recall. He went to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and I went to Ft. Knox and then Ft. Gordon, Ga.
Lo and behold we both wound up in Ui Jong Bu, Korea about 2 miles apart by Jan. of 1966. We grew up a few blocks apart and wound up in the middle of nowhere in Korea, almost as close as we were at home.

Bob, I made SEVERAL TDY trips to Germany and visited HAHN often even when TDY to other nearby bases...all during the 1984 to 1992 timeframe, however! Wiesbaden being my personal 'fave!' *~*
