This is too funny. Have you been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, "Surely I can't look that old?" I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist. I noticed his DDS diploma, which bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered a tall, handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 40-odd years ago. Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate. After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended Lawton Senior High school. "Yes Yes, I did. I'm a Wolverine," he gleamed with pride. "When did you graduate?" I asked. He answered, "In 1961. Why do you ask?" "You were in my class!" I exclaimed. He looked at me closely. Then, that ugly, old, wrinkled son-of-a-buck asked, "What did you teach?"

I know how that is, when I look in a mirror I feel that I don't look as old as I am, then I run into someone that I grew up with and think I can't look as old as he does but I realize unfortunatly that I do, gray hair and all. When my back isn't hurting I still feel like I am young and when I am out driving my Kat I always feel young, that is until a young kid pulls alongside and gives me a funny look, like what is that old man driving THAT car for? (because I can). I remember when I was in my 20's and would see a older person driving a Corvette I would wonder why he would want that car. Now I am that older man. Barry

When I was a kid there was an ( old ) man in the neighborhood who drove a Vette. He had a grey flat top haircut. This was around 1955 or so. Flat tops were in and a Vette was pretty rare. I thought that was extremely cool. The guy was probably about 50 or 55. I fondly remember those years ( when I was 50 to 55) lol. I was talking to my aunt the other night and asked her what year my grandpa was born. 1891. I wondered since he used to play "pepper" with me in the yard whenever we would visit. I figured he was about 80 since he was bald. I thought he was old my entire life. He was probably about 62 at the time. Funny how "old" changes its meaning over time. Ask an 8 year old how old is old and they tell you 19 or 22. A teenager thinks 30 is old. I'm thinking 110 is old now. lol. This message has been edited by ed monahan on 08-29-2004 at 12:45 AM

I was in a parade last Christmas and among the spectators was my friend's daughter and her friend. They were probably about 12. When I turned into the parking lot, they were standing right there and her friend got all excited and was jumping up and down saying, "Look at that cool car with the old man in it!"

I don't think people look as old as they age now as they did when I was a kid as I remember my grandfather on my mom's side and I think he looked OLD as long as I can remember, but he was probably only about 50 or so when I used to visit and stay at their house. My grandfather on my dad's side passed away in his 50's and my dad passed at 44, I am 55 and I don't think I look as old as my dad when he was in his early 40's. I know that if it was not for modern medicine I would not be here right now. It's funny how I miss my dad and grandparents more as I get older than I did when I was in my 20's, they always seemed wiser than I will ever be. My dad was a detective and I had no intrest in what he did, but now I keep a photo of him in the living room and it is of him as John Kennedy's personal body guard when he was running for president and in St. Louis, I guess it is somthing that I am super proud of that he did. I also noticed that as I get older I can not judge other peoples age like I used to. One of the girls on this site said she has been married 10 years longer than me and when I saw a photo of her I thought she looks so much younger than I do. And when I see a 16 or so driving a car I cant beleive that I looked that young when i started driving. My wife is 50 and no way does she look anywhere near that. Barry

The receptionist at my office is 21 years old. The other day, I came back from an appointment and she said there had been someone there to see me, but he would not leave is name. She said he looked really old, but would return later. It turns out, he was the guy we are leasing some building space from for our Lab.....he just turned 40.

Pepper is like hotbox (in a way) without a runner. It's a way of practicing catching and speed skills in baseball. Stand "fairly" close across from one another, and your partner either throws (or hits) ground balls to you, one right after another. The object is to catch them all and throw them back right away, only to have them come back at you right away.

Being that I never played or followed baseball, it is understandable that I didn't get it. Thanks, id

If you look at pictures of old ballparks you will see signs that say "No Pepper games" printed right on the backstop or walls. It may still be on Wrigley Field or Fenway walls. You choke up on the bat and just "bunt" or slap the ball and try to get it past the fielder/pitcher. Sorry, I thought it was a more well known term. Probably an age thing. No, that can't be it or my dad, Dave would have known. lolThis message has been edited by ed monahan on 08-29-2004 at 02:17 PM

I look pretty good for 50! Most young people guess me at 35 to 40! No one has ever guessed it right at carnivals or amusement parks either. I guess when you heavy your whole life your so blown up you skin doesn't stretch and give you wrinklesMens hair dye works wonders also. Why look 60 if you can look 50? I take some ribbibg from my guy friends but with a wife 15 yrs younger its the way to go. She thinks I'm a old relic at 50. I went to my 30 yr reunion in 2002 believe me I looked GOOD! All the cheerleaders looked like they were lifetime members at weight watchers. Men, they looked 60's at best! When you get down to it your only as old as you feel! JMO------------------
