....fresh out of highschool in 1969.....cars were fast, girls were young and the Beatles were about to retire forever.......1970s ....4 years in the military(SE Asia,Texas), 3-1/2 more years in college.....got married in 1971, young kids, demise of the musclecar....'78 Vette Indy pace Car was a hot item, transporters were at the local truckstop buying them for $30K each and hauling them off to collectors to retire on(today they will bring about $25K)....many of the sixties music "supergroups" were gone....Janis, Jim and Jimi all left us early.....Kent State shootings.....Viet Nam was finally over.....POWs released.....I got to work with several of the returning POWs on their military pay situations(very gratifying).....looked at the new 1978 Dodge Charger my neighbor drove home and I was in a funk for the next several months(they sucked)....I never dreamed there would ever be anything like Prowlers or Vipers, I thought cars were all going to be 2.2 liter front drive econoboxes forever....bought my first Corvette in 1975, a red 1961($2100)it didn't run, so I would go out after dark and sit in it for a short while in the driveway, just imagineing what it would be like.......1977 bought my second Corvette, a mint restored white 1962, paid $4800....1974 started my first business, a candy and tobacco wholesale house, I sold it in 1988 and semi retired, then started other ventures which I am still associated with today....rode a motorcycle for the last time in 1978(before it was confiscated by the State Police) and had hair almost to my waist(not a good look I might add), just found my old bike ridin' jacket yesterday and uhhhh, I don't think It would fit anymore.....1974, the last GTO was made, they said it would never return(It didn't)....Richard Petty was still tearin up the Winston Cup tracks.....1975 my daughter Emily was born, tonight her daughter Lauren spent the night with us....1978 my son Tom was born, he was married last summer and has his own businesses.....our house payment was around $150 per month, and our water bill was $5.65 per month.....biggest storm ever, hit New Castle the winter of 1977, we were stranded on our street for several days, the National Guard had to come to town to dig us out.....I still have video of the storm....Freddie Prinze took his own life, I was a big fan of his(his neighborhood was so poor, they had to insert the bullets manually)....Santa Clause made a personal visit to our house at Christmas to see the kids, something they still remember.....lived in China for about 18 months, spoke some Chinese(still remember all the "Bad words").....remember my buddy bringing over a new record album one night to listen to, it was "Kansas", I was stunned it was so good....Kansas I assume has long since retired and my buddy has spent most of the last 30 years in and out of prison, he will be released this time when he is 60 years old....MASH and Happy days first hit the airwaves and have never left....MASH the movie was one of my all time favorites, timing of it I suppose....the Godfather had us lined up for blocks at a small Chinese movie theatre in about 1973....Tubular Bells, soundtrack for the Exorcist still gives me the creeps.... ....the seventies was far more memmorable for me than most, I was young and life was still new and fresh.....

AC...you mean "bell bottom shorts"......I still have several "leisure suits", nothing like taking Cookie out on the town with my leisure suit, plenty of gold chains and my "snap in" gold tooth....Cookie looks dazzling in sequins ......true story.... a few years ago an old buddy of mine calls me and says he is on his way over to show me a Vette he just bought....he pulls up in front of the house in a 77 Vette that is painted robins egg blue....I laughed so hard I couldn't even talk....I told him he needed to get some gold chains and a leisure suit to complete the look....he soon sold the car and bought a red 76 Vette.....that blue Vette was the dorkiest car I ever saw..... ...when we think 70's cars,we think big...the bigger the better was the motto in the 70's. How long were those Lincolns and Caddy ,30 feet or more.... My wife has a real 70's nostalgia with her 72 Beetle Convertible... I sometimes look at the photo album from the 70's....is that really me?------------------

....for about a year or so I had a giant "afro"....around '79-'80....still have a few pix, hope I CAN"T find one.....my son carries an old family picture from that era in his wallet and tells people his dad is "Weird Al Yankovic"....it made me about 6'5" when we lived in Texas,'73-'74.....all the sharp dressed "Cowboys" there wore white shoes and white belts.....shoes were called "white bucks".....they also had bumper stickers on their trucks that said "I'm A Roper, Not A Doper" and "Eat More Possum".....Texas was not for me, I couldn't get out of that state fast enough....I didn't like country music, didn"t own a pick up truck and couldn't get an "Easy Rider Rifle Rack" in the rear window of my 'Cuda...... around 1974 Pink Floyd released "Dark Side of the Moon"...Syd Barrett went insane and "Floyd" continued on to an even greater success with out their founder/leader.....it was on the charts for years.....

John - Marriage #2 lasted the entire 80's decade. Had two kids, one more new house, bunch of rental houses, ran marathon & triatlons, etc. Marriage number three (current and last!) wasn't unitl the 90's. Too many cars in 80's & 90's to list in a thread about the 70's. Disco; bell bottoms; sex, drug & roll 'n' roll; college, fraternity, leisure suits, long hair, ........... that was the 70's.

.....I'm a big sucker for 70's cars - used to watch "Streets of San Francisco" when I was a 'junior' and just looooved those street machines as described by Dr. Prowler !! Of course, being a 'junior' back then the 70's are kind of a blurr - but I remember: - Bell bottoms (which my parents wore excessively) - Music by ABBA (anyone remembers that band ?) - Blondie (the band) - my first "KISS" album - my first kiss from a girl in Italy in 1975 - those wild parties I never was allowed to participate - Star Wars movies - Close encounters of the 3rd kind (changed MY life)

That was a great show....Beginning for Michael Douglas with Karl Malden.....There was Columbo,Six Million Dollar Man....who can forget Dennis Weaver as Mcloud.....the list goes on. You know I went to see Blondie this year and also ABBA the musical(Broadway production-very well done). Never kissed a girl from Italy in the 70's.... Is there anyone who hasn't seen Star Wars and talked about it? How many times have you seen Grease....it was a big hit!------------------
