Not trying to start another political debate here (we've had plenty...), but I learned from a reliable source at the Pentagon last evening that the word in the Pentagon is that Secretary Rumsfeld is leaving, probably in Jan 05. To date the departing list appears to be:Condi Rice (Nat'l Security) Colen Powell (Sec State) Richard Armitage (Dep Sec State) Tommy Thompson (HHS) Donald Rumsfeld (Sec Def) Obviously it remains to be seen if all of these individuals actually call it quits after the election. Come to think of it, I do believe they are the only two "people of color" in the entire D.C. area. What will we do, what will we do????

Nothing to do with anything here, but I was watching a documentary this morning about a guy that traveled through Thailand and Laos. One fact I found that was amazing was the number of bombs dropped in Laos. The number if stretched evenly was the equivalent of one full bomb load every 8 minutes 24/7 for 9 years.

Buckets - many from the Clinton White house left in a pine box,,,,,,you don't want to pis$ off Hillary, lol. Sorry Tom, I would agree with Butchchee that anything goes in the OFF TOPIC FORUM. Plenty of room to talk cars in the general, technical, and appearance forums. I think it is quite normal for many White House Secretaries to leave their positions after two/four years. The pressure from the press is constant and their personal lives suffer greatly. Besides, it seems good that the President could replace any openings with new, fresh idea people. Also, you will hear it first here: Within the next 24 years,,,,there will be another George Bush as a President. JMO

Butchee - you're right, it could be nothing more than a rumor. The person who told me is civil service (GM-15) working on the force realignment issues with Rumsfeld's office. This person does not actually work in the secretary's office. Alley Cat, you're right, the pressures of a cabinet level position is terrible, especially in this town (DC). It is normal for people to move on after four years so they can have their personal lives back again. These positions have lots of perks, but the invasion of privacy and being second guessed all the time are not things I would be willing to endure very long.
