The cars are great - love that part.

The dialogue is so phoney - they are trying too hard to imitate American Chopper. They should just do their own thing - it would be a much better show then.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The overly punctuated dialogue when talking to the camera, the one constantly pissed off guy, the one builder, and of course, the overweight goof for comic relief.

Guess they figure why change a winning formula. Course, that formula doesn't work for all.....

Great series and talented builders.I like when they have one day left and manage to get the interior and final assembly done. Wonder how long it really takes to get the stuff done? They must have carte blanche at the chrome shop too to get the work done in a couple of days.

Chrome shop probably bumps them to the top to get their name on national TV.

Same as with the painter that actually comes to the OCC shop to pick up the tank or makes an emergency run out there to fix a scratch when their shop is 1.5 hours away.

I'm sure they do that for all their customers. At least the ones filming it all for national TV.......

I just watched one Monday night and was surprised to see that Al Simon was one of the main fabricators in Boyd's shop. Al was building the exhaust system and other parts for a Ford roadster.

Al worked for me for a while, welding boxes for my shop. He was a great welder and fabricator way back then and that was about 15 years ago.
I guess I'll need to make a phone call just to say hello.

Hide the beer cans Bob. My point is that I think the schedule is fabricated for a sense of drama.. Ask Al Simon Larry--he should know.

Both shows, American Chopper and Hot Rod are always talking about the tight deadlines, yet always seem to finds lots of time to goof off or go play somewhere. Of the two I like Chopper the best. My other favorite is Overhaulin.
I have actually lost some respect for Boyd after watching Hot Rod. The guy gets rich and dumps his wife for the trophy wife.

His previous wife Diane is certainly sweet...but...call me crazy...it looks like Boyd definitely traded "UP" with his new wife "jo"?

Chromer,

I watch the show... Sure, Boyd went "up" pretty much from the basement to the 10th floor, but it still isn't the 112th story penthouse....

Call me crazy, but did the new wife marry him because she really loves him or because of the fame and the money?

MadMax-
What do you really think! LOL

TLRandall-
American Choppers has gotten a little stale, but the interaction of all the cast still is hilarious. My son occasionally will say, "I'll turn around Dad so you can bop me in the back of the head".

Beware-
My son & I try & catch all these shows. Overhaulin is our favorite. Messing with the owner is funny and they do some cool transformations. American Hot Rod turns out some cool rides, but is hard to relate to because of the big staff, big budgets, etc.

Rides had a cool show on recently that featured Rat Rods. Now that was backyard garage work by a team of real rodders. I bet Real Rod Bob loved that one.

The great Biker Buildoff series was great!

Randy
That was probably my favorite Rides show. I like the Rat Rods. My wife does not understand them at all. She likes shiney and new looking. I would like to have a Rat Rod for my daily driver. But it would have to have AC.

It always gets me to hear Boyd say WE when he talks about building or what ever since I've never seen him do any thing.Dwayne runs the neg.meter off the scale,he need to grow up.They do produce some really nice cars.I saw in one of mag.that Snap-On tools paid for the blue and yellow roadster and it's to given away at a Goodguys show.Sure like to be the winner.

'Indian Larry' dies after stunt in Cabarrus

Indian Larry, a master motorcycle mechanic and stunt man, passed away this morning following an accident while performing Saturday at the Liquid Steel Classic and Custom Bike Series show at Cabarrus Arena and Events Center in Concord. He was best known for his appearances on Discovery Channel's "Great Biker Build-Off" show.

"He was riding and standing up on his seat," said Mike Downs, Cabarrus County deputy county manager. "The bike started to wobble and he was not able to regain control."

Indian Larry fell off the bike before a crowd of about 8,000. He was not wearing a helmet. Paramedics were standing by and aided him until he could be airlifted to CMC, Downs said.

Indian Larry was a cool guy, just watching the shows he was on he said what was on his mind...

Another sad loss.

I would rather have Foose build me a car in 7 days than Boyd in 6 weeks,,,,,JMO

I agree with you Gary.

I'd rather have a Foose muscle car than a hot rod by Boyd.
Foose is sooo creative with supple design changes and paint schemes and doesn't go overboard with his creations.

I think the "Deadlines" are just for show. They don't really look like they are rushing that much. You are right Randy, after a couple of shows, they all start to look the same - they have to put the fake deadlines in there to spice things up a bit.

Well as far as deadlines on the "Overhaulin" show, I am connected with this group and I can tell you they hit the 7 day mark. The show they are shooting in September is going to be a BIG one. Also for those attending SEMA this year we will be finshing a episode at the show.
