The bad news part of it, it wasn't me, it was my oldest son, who was playing right behind my group. I heard it hit the pin, while on the next tee and we heard the "whoop" but could not see the green and did not know it went in until they pulled up. I have still never had a hole in one. He had an 8 on the previous hole so he did inherit some of my talent. lol. He birdied another par 3 so on his score card he had every number from one to 8. Pretty unusual.

I hit the pin a couple weeks back but the ball stayed out but within 2 inches. I did have a hole in one a few years back when I was an even worse golfer. I can't even frame the scorecard as the "1" is dwarfed by the score on the other 17 holes. This message has been edited by Wayne Finch on 07-14-2004 at 11:47 PM

Ed - don't feel bad. I've played thousands of rounds of golf without a hole-in-one either. My sister-in-law has shot two holes-in-one over 35 years of playing golf, and she never lets me forget it. I've been close two or three times,,,,but we know what that is worth, lol. I don't remember now, but I still probably three putted those greens

A few weeks back my son was playing in the same group as me and he hit it about 4 feet from the pin and I put it about 10 inches from the cup on the same hole. His line was basically, "The best shot of my life and you have to outdo me!" Almost everyone that I golf with has had a hole in one. I have never gotten really close. I have had numerous eagles on par 4s and 5s but nothing to brag about on a par 3. I have been playing over 50 years, you would think I would get one just by dumb luck. One buddy of mine is a total hacker and he had a hole in one a few years ago. I was not there that day. Today my son was using a really beat up ball today. He usually only wants to hit Titleist but he had a beat up one today. Later in the round, my son's buddy hit the stick, right up near the flag and it bounced back at least 35 feet. It probably would have been in the woods if he didn't hit the stick. Monday I had 6 straight pars, a double bogey, then a birdie and then took an eight. I can never put 18 holes together. I did bowl a 300 game. I think that takes more skill and luck than one shot to get a hole in one. I would still like to get one, though.

Ed - Maybe you and I should start hitting a 'driving range ball' off the par 3 tees? I also bowled a 300 game once,,,,,,,,,,,,wait, no, it was a 300 series, lol. You got me there!

I'm with you guys in that I've never had an ace in 20 years of playing golf.I've witnessed two. My most pleasant experience in golf is watching my 12 year old son who has gone crazy over the game. I was really proud of him last week on the phone when his Grandfather asked him why golf was so much better than the other sports he has played. My son responded that in golf referees are not needed. That each player calls fouls/penalties on him/herself and it's a game based on honesty and integrity. Drug testing is not needed. Could not have said it better myself.Pretty cool coming from a 12 year old. ------------------

I've been playing for 20 yrs and none yet! I play with many good golfers who have never had one in 40 years. I do know about 4 lousey golfers who have one (Over 20 handicap). I paired up with a 85 yr old guy a few years ago who said to me on the 2nd hole a (par 3)(146 yards). That he has had 36 holes in one in his life. I said to myself yea right! He tees the ball up takes out his driver and hits a worm burner which rolls right up to the pin and goes in! I stood there looked at him and he looks at me and says "Thats my 12th one on this hole. I couldn't believe it if i didn't see it. He proceeded to shoot about 125. He came within an inch of another one on a par 3 and he never hit the ball over 30' in the air all day. He was one lucky guy. 85 and still golfing! I've come within a few inches a few times but thats it!------------------

Gheezzz Chuck - after reading that story, it makes me want to throw all my clubs away except my seven iron and the putter. I still doubt the story of the previous 36 holes-in-one, but what the hell, it must be easier to just hit ground skippers with the rest of the hackers Out here in the desert west,,we have real roughs. If your out in the rough here, you are chasing rattlesnakes and jack rabbits most of the time, lol.

AC- You guys do have tough rough. The desert dirt/sand/stones will cut grooves on the sole of a club. On the big island the rough at least 3 of the courses is lava rock - just take a drop.Have a great weekend! ------------------

I've managed to get one in my lifetime so far. Funny part is that I even called the hole in one before I took my shot. I wasn't expecting it. I had just remembered at that particular hole there was a vendor set up the last time I had played there saying if you made a hole in one with one of his clubs he'd give you one. I guess it was just luck, because I am far from being a good golfer.

I remember the first time I ever golfed I was with my brother and Dad and on one hole I hit the pin on the first shot. Bounced a few feet away after it hit, though.

My youngest son and his friend went to a par 3 course and on the first hole the tee is on top of a hill, with the green at the bottom. His buddy Chuck dubbed one and it rolled about 75 yards down the hill and just missed the cup. It was his first golf shot EVER on a golf course. They were about 9 yrs. old. I forgot about that until I just read Wuzzer's post.

What is everyone getting a hole in? I have been going crazy looking the car over top to bottom all night and I can't find any holes in anything! Am I looking in the right spots? I know it says hole in one, but, hole in one what?
