I sure it will be BOTH....... there are always more then one event.

It is nice to try and have a NATIONAL EVENT that draws people from all over. But to have it a West Coast or East Coast event only would limit the number of people. So those on the west coast can plan an event and there are always several things going on east of the Mississippi.

No matter what not everyone will be able to make all events. I have not been able to due to when my vacation is, which by the way was last week and this week.

I like the idea of the Dells for 05......left coast people probably like the Deadwood/Yellowstone idea......Texas/ Florida might like something in the Brandson, MO or Georgia area.

For me a California event would mean 3 HARD days drive there and then back so it would have to be a 2 week trip for me. Anyone much future east would have to add at least a day if not two for each way traveling.

I think several people feel they cannot plan an event. If you live in an area that has nice scenic drives and places of interest for auto lovers a place to take a LARGE GROUP to eat, then maybe you could plan an event. It is alot of work but usually there are people that will help in the area to plan.

Mike K. I think this should go up for poll question

With 2004 events still under way,I'm sure in the next few months we'll come to a firm date and time and place.
So that's what 4 stars look like.....I'm jealous now!

I really don't care where it is but it would be nice if it was scheduled around a major sporting event like Indy 500 or daytona 500 or California race. It would be nice to attend such a large event with POA members, its better then a Drive-IN. JMO

The initial problems I see with booking a POA event during a major sporting event are hotel price & availability, group parking, crowded restaurants. Typically major events will block most hotels in a a city at higher rates normally paid at a POA event. Having planned several POA events as the rate approaches or passes the $100 mark, the more complaints.

A suggestion would be to hold an event at a close by area - within a 90 minute or 2 hour drive. This would work if you are only interested in the actual sporting event & not the ancillary things around the game/race.

I personally like the idea of the Power Tour and also hope Yellowstone can be planned.

I would love a week with a different Hotel every other night. If thats a power tour great. We could always get a block of rooms for a major event. I'm going to daytona 500 and i have a 2 bedroom timeshare each year. It would just be fun sitting together in parking lot with 50 Kats at a race and sitting together inside. JMO Dusti I went to first 2 Indy Formula 1's. Not that interesting they get the lead and you can't pass and its over in 70 to 90 minutes! A lot of effort and $$$$$ for 90 minutes of racing. Hey i'm not involved so i'm not the one who making the final decision. I'm sure it will be in groups best interest.

Marty's right. Rates for major events and holidays jump up 30-50% in Daytona for the 500 and 400. Living here and knowing the areas accommodations, it's really impracticable to have something like that on an event weekend. However, you all can come down for the Turkey Rod Run Thanksgiving week. According to some of those who come every year, there should be a good amount of Kats in the infield this year.

Jackson Hole in Wyoming is a nice place, it close to Yellowstone National Park and other areas, the thing is you unable to drive fast, speed limit is 45 mph in the park. Virginian Hotel in Jackson is very old but is nice hotel I may be able to talk to the owner to get the good rates for us.

Early spring will not be crowed that why I like go to the park at that time almost every years in the past 27 years since I live in Idaho.

The fourth stars is came from my contribution of Texas Stampede refund when I was unable to attended Texas Stampede, I just asked the committee to forward my fees to POA if there is a refund and they did. Thank you the committee they have done that.

Power Tur details will be announced by Hot Rod magazine later this year. Runor has it it will start somewhere in Upper Midwest - Minneapolis, Milwaukee, or Chicaogo and possibly go to Florida. Most days are 200 to 300 miles, there is large cruise in in each city each nught with locals. Some people join/some drop out at each stop. Laddie did the long haul (entire route) last year from Nashville to Arlington (Dallas area) and said it was a blast.

I envision doing the Power Tour solo and having Rebecca fly to Florida for the end and then cruise with Mr. Real Rod in Florida!

Sam,

Be patient my friend.

As I posted before, I will be planning a POA Fifth Anniversary Event for July 4, 2005

My first choice for a location is Deadwood but I seem to be out voted.
At this time it looks like it will be either Yellowstone/Grand Tetons or Lake Tahoe/Carson City.
While on vacation last week I spoke to a friend that is very familiar with the Wyoming area and we discussed a few things about the event after he pulled my butt out of the whitewater and back into the raft. Ouch that hurt!
I just don't much time right now to work on it as my business is in our busy season and I just got back from vacation.
As soon as I can, I'll start the advance planning and will be asking for volunteers to help out. Some have already offered to help with the event.

The Hotels in Indy RAPE the people coming in for Formula 1 race. They were charging 3 X the normal rate in some cases.

This is a few day event. Parking at Indy is a mess and unless you are INVITED and have reserved parking I for one would NOT DRIVE my Prowler and park at the track. There is a guy that parks Fererri's (OH YOU KNOW THOSE STUPID LITTLE RED CARS) in his yard and only charges $100 each per day. A Friend of mine lives close and would let us use his yard excussively, but only about 10 cars and clearence might be a problem getting into the yard.

I have thought of another Indy event. I have a few places that I think would appeal to owners, BUT SURE AS H*LL wouldn't plan it during any of the races

I do not go to the races anymore and live about 20 miles away

I have got calls in to everyone I know that may get info on the Power Tour Departure city before they print. It has already been decided that the final destination is Kissime Florida and I want to say it starts the 2nd weekend in June. I will post in events section the minute I know, also I will get the Host Hotel info before it is printed in the magazine. You stay in a different Hotel every night, rooms seem to run about $90. To make the moving everyday easy I think who ever goes we could all chip in on a support rig with a trailer ( cargo van, SUV, truck with topper ) so in the mornings we can pull it up in front of the hotel and throw our luggage in. Last year they had over 2000 cars go th whole way. It would be great to have 30 Prowlers go the distance and have several others show up at each nights stop.

How about a Prowler tour, with owners from the US and Canada leaving from an east, west, south or eastern route
with people joining up along the route to a Yellowstone or Deadwood or Dells location ?

There are some good ideas being tossed around and the good thing is that I've never been to any of those places.
Maybe we should start something similar to the VOI(Viper Owner Invitational)which is held this year in Dallas and expecting over 1000 cars.
We could have a POI-Prowler Owner's Invitational which is kinda like the National events anyway.
Central is always good because it would attract the biggest crowd from all different parts(East,West etc.).Timing is important as well because a lot of owner's just simply can't get the time off at certain times.
Maybe try and do an event around a major city(which I'm sure always has a lot to offer).....

Larry L. - FYI - I would be opssed to Deadwood. It would be almost a days drive closer for Eastern cats but a longer ddrive for you CA members. I'll be glad to help out, start getting info for Tourist Bureues on hotels, etc. IF you decide on Yellowstone, I think Cody would be better than Jackson for our group.

just my half cents worth

Marty,
Great minds think alike.

We stayed in Cody on our way home from the Crazy Horse 2001 event and we really liked the town. Wide open spaces, good roads and lower hotel rates make it a good choice. Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole and many other attractions are within an event day's driving time.

Larry, I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. Life around here has been pretty crazy with a lot of personal things to attend to. Things have finally settled down a bit.

Last year there had been some discussions about future events and I said that I would like to see one in Yellowstone. Several people contacted me after that and asked me if I would be willing to spearhead an event for 2005 if they assisted me. Since no one else appeared to be interested in spearheading it, I said that I would as long as they helped. We have had some discussions and have actually been checking on hotels, etc.

We had not decided if we would do it in 2005 or 2006, nor had we announced anything yet until we determined what time of the year, if enough people were interested, etc. Do you want me to step down so you can plan the event, or should we continue?

Hey Alley Cat.....
I'm sorry to say that I did not bring my submersible camera and there are no pictures of Larry being pulled into the raft.
I was busy trying not to drown. We were tossed from our raft like rag dolls into the some pretty nasty rapids.
The locals call them " The meat grinder". And I had some purple bruises to prove it.
Fortunately, nothing more than some bumps and bruises so we considered ourselves lucky.

His driving hat is safe---however, I lost one of his prized hats somewhere on the American River. Oh well!
