Hi Prowler People! You gotta see this thread over at one of the corvette automotive forums. It is unbelievable. It talks about how some Chevy dealership dumped a corvette off one of their lifts. The pictures are shocking. Also, it is interesting how those people came together to help out the owner of that corvette. Would you accept your prowler back from a dealer if they damaged it like this? That dealership just wants to repair it and give it back to him. That car will never be the same. They should give that guy a new vette for all of his troubles. Here is the link to the thread and associated pictures. |

Oh, come on. My Prowler falls off the lift every other time they change my oil. A little Meguiars Quik Detailer and the thing will be as good as new. Just kidding. Seriously, though, how the heck does a car fall off a lift? That's a pretty stable set-up. By the way, is the guy who was changing the oil at the time...well...dead? Oh no, is that your prowler? I hope not! Well, the owner posted an explanation of what happened. No one was injured thank goodness except for the corvette they spanked. Here is the link: |

I try to remain pretty calm most of the time, but I must admit that would probably pizz me off more than just a little...... |

The reason I even have a Prowler is the Chevy dealer in my area tried to repair body damage from the delvery truck. Messed up my paint, I only had my 2002 Vette under 4 months if that. I turned around and sold my Vette to another dealer. Thank God I bought my Corvette through a GM empoylee plan. |

I've never been in a situation like that nor do I ever intend to,but I guess it would depend on the circumstances.Accidents do happen and sometimes it's unfortunate, but you gotta deal with it somehow. Personally,I'd sue for at least 2.7 Million and settle at 2.5 Million... |

I saw my prowler almost take a dive off a lift from 6 ft up. the dealer didn't put it on correctly..I watched it teeter on 3 lift points... This is typical of most dealers...To Quote Larry the Cable Guy "get'r dun". Usually means sloppy and fast. |

Could not have happened to a better car... Just kidding. Hope nobody was hurt. Have not gone to the link yet, but if it happened to me. After I would have dropped the tech & the Service Manager the same way, I would expect dealer to replace it with a brand new one & not fix it. A dealer will find the cheapest way out by fixing it & find the cheapest way to cut corners while doing so (that is why they won't replace it to begin with). I would also notify every newspaper & news channel in the area just to promote their negligence. A fender ding is one thing, but to drop a car from six feet up. That is pure stupidity. & these guys are making how much an hour for Labor??? I would have thought that lift operations would have been one of the things covered in the first week of classes... Even if it is a Corvette I don't even think the Consumer Reports drops a car from six feet. rsterling78 - What happened there??? OUCH! Thanks for sharing! Good thing my tech does not mind me standing nearby while my Kat is in for work... WildBill |

Accidents do happen from time to time, but the dealer needs to make it right! Here is a picture of another unlucky owner.

Well I have been in the Corvette guys shoes, they did not drop my vette off a lift but when the but when they were done servicing it the bone head pulled into the parking spot to fast and hit the building, they said he only touched it but it set off both airbags, took out the nose cone, hood, radiator support and the windshield when the hood came back. Car was 4 years old with 25000 miles on it, they offered to fix the car and give me a loaner along with free oil changes for as long as I owned it, I agreed and when I went to pick up the loaner they wanted to give me a Corsica! Well I went off and by the time I went from the service department to the GM's office they were pulling a new C-5 off the showroom floor for me to use while they fixed my car, funny thing is they said it would take 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to fix my car at first and some how they managed to get it done in 6 days. Car was good as new plus they gave me $2000 to cover any depreciation for being repainted. Then theres my dad he took his Prowler in for the Ball Joint recall and someone stole his car right out of the service bay and they did nothing for him. ------------------ This message has been edited by Bob Goetz on 06-18-2004 at 02:09 PM |

Wow. Some of you guys have some real horror stories to tell, especially you Bob. Just to let people know, there still are some good guys out there. A week before the Stampede, at the Dealership where I work, we (our Svc. Dept) damaged a customer's car. They turned off the compressors at the end of the day and one of the Techs pulled the month-old customer's car into a stall that had a lift. He didnt realize that although the lift was down flush with the floor, the lift was not turned off. This is the kind of lift that lifts from the outboard sides, not from a center cylinder. When the first guy in the next day turned the compressors on you can guess what happened. The lift came up about 3 feet and smashed the right door, rocker, quarter panel and even messed up the front bumper cover. When we called the customer in to see what happened (I was there) we could see in his eyes how disappointed he was. Not really PO'ed, but just kind of dumbfounded. Our dealership offered to replace the car for him on the spot and of course he accepted. Now I get to fix it in the Bodyshop, we have insurance for this type of thing, and then we will disclose the damage and sell the car. Someone will get a really nice car, although it has had damage and was repaired. We lose a little money but we keep our customer. And it makes all involved feel good to know we did the right thing without having to make an issue over it. Just wanted to share that so you all would know there are some Dealerships out here that still have some integrity.....JMO, Buddy ------------------ |
