... not counting airplanes of course...what is the fastest vehicle you own? Is it your Kat or something else?

In my case it is (would you believe)a VW powered dune buggy.
My son and I just finished rebuilding the engine after 18 months of it collecting dust. So it is off to the dunes this weekend I hope. We are running a seriously bored and stroked 2275CC(was 1600CC)with an Engle cam, dual Weber 44mm carbs and a few other mods. Horsepower is way over 120 which does not sound like alot, but in an 800 lb car you can pull wheelies in 1st and 2nd gear. Here is a couple of photos including a shot of the massive counter-weighted crank. The case has to be hogged-out to make room for the reciprocating assembly. the rods and slugs are nearly as big as a small block chevy.
Post some pics of your fastest rides...

My Prowler is certainly faster than Rebecca's Escape. The fastest I ever owned was a '71 Nova with beefed up samll block Chevy engine. It would run the 1/8 mile in the uppper 7's. My '88 Corvette Convertible was fastest top speed I ever drove - 153 MPH

My fastest Motorcycle was a reworked Honday 750 back in the mid 70's. I would get scared usually once it reached 140 and never got it to it's true top speed.

Fastest boat I drove was a Baja jet drive and would out at 87 on smooth water. My fastest boat would only do mid 60's, depending on the pitch of the prop I was using. It was a ski boat (more torque/less speed) and had pulled 8 skiers on several occassions in ski shows.

Fastest airplane I personally flew was a twin engine Cesna 310 at 160 knots. The training planes I rented were much slower.

Fastest on a bicycle (according to the speedometer on the bike) was 63 MPH down a hillside during a triathlon in central Kentucky during the mid 80's. (that was close to being the most scared I have ever been)

Over all those means of transportation, I'll take the Kat over them all!

Ron/David - shows you what I remember about my short two years of flying. You guys are correct. I called my friend that owned the plane and she said the twin engine plane they let me fly (right seat only, I wasn't rated for it obviously) was their Cessna 310. They had sold their four seat single engine Mooney and bought the six seat Cessna for her husband's business. At least my memory on the speed was close. She told me 160 knots was pretty close to cruising speed with a max of just over 200. Having only flown single engine 150, 152 and 172's while taking flying lessons, this was like going from a Ford Escort to a Buick Wildcat.

In anycase, I went through a divorce at that time and couldn;t afford to keep flying. It sure was enjoyable. The same couple are trrying to talk me into "gliding" David is a certified glider instructor and they own thier own. I wonder how fast gliders go?

David - it's tough to admit to myself that my memory isn't what it use to be.

My friends own all or part of four planes including one they spent three years building in their basemnent. (I would not fly anything I built, I can tell you that!) The coolest plane they let me in was a cloth winged Piper trainer taildragger (don't know the model) Flying with a stick is totally different to me than using a yolk.

I'm still thinking about the gliding, but don't have much time (or any $$ for a new hobby)

See you in a few days.

Marty

Ron - don't let me fly the plane if I've been around Bob Goetz!

The last time I piloted was two years ago and before that Reba & I chartered a plane/pilot in New Zealand in 2000 and the fool let me fly for an hour and a half. It was probably good that he took the controls back to land. It only took me 122 touch and goes before I was able to solo back in 1989!
