WildCats post made me think about speeding tickets in the past....
from the time I was 16 till I was 18 I was stopped 23 times and received 5 tickets, not counting quite a few chases that I got away clean(how stupid)....stopped mostly for speeding and loud exhausts(open headers), a few for street racing(playing car tag), stolen car(3 times, and it was my car), evading officers(the last time resulted in their guns being drawn and handcuffs)....then I turned 18 and realized the accelerator had other positions besides all the way down....I got another ticket July 3, 1969 for multiple counts(85 in a 30, improper passing, evasion), finally wised up and didn't get another ticket for 33 years and that was for 69mph in a 60mph zone in one of the Carolinas, and I was driving a Jeep....these days I use cruise and rarely speed at all....

You're a Wild Man!!! Glad you're around now to laugh about it. Do you teach drivers' ed now or evasive driving techniques?

I speed, but I try to stay with the flow of traffic, because everyone is speeding. It's a form of anarchy I guess, but I like it!!! I got two speeding tickets in Knob Noster, Missouri on the same afternoon in 1969, driving a slant six Coronet! The town cop reminded me of Barney Fife(spelling). Never got a ticket in my 440 and 383 '68 Chargers.

Bob,
...the old gang is just old these days....we talk about the old days from time to time, but most of us now have gray hair and grandkids....there were bumpers and fenders rubbed in the "car tag" games, but nothing serious ever happened to any of us....we were just lucky....I even traded cars one time for an all black car, harder to see in the dark....could cut the lights to play tag or outrun the cops, they couldn't see me....there were about 6-8 of us that played car tag on various nights, we all had big block Chevelles, GTOs, Novas and one guy had a 68 Charger, he was a poor driver and his car had a white vinyl top, could see it a mile away , so he was "IT" alot of the time....we usually played in the midnight to 3am time frame, very little traffic in our town at that time of night....and they wonder what happened to the Musclecars ???

6 speeding tickets spread out over 34 years of driving. 5 other non-moving violations.

I put the cruise on about 6-7 miles over the limit when I'm on interstate highways, but I tend to speed in 35 & 45 mph zones from just not paying attention.

Seems like I always get caught in the stupidest situations you can ever imagine-like going 40 in a 30 mile an hour zone.
I never got caught speeding in a Prowler or a Viper-instead I get pulled over in an Avalanche!
Now they are talking about bringing the Photo Radar back...lovely!

It's probably approaching the triple digits, not that all of them were deserved, of course... (I got pulled over 3 times Friday night before I even left my subdivision. All I wanted was a friggin' hotdog. Geez!!)

1st ticket was wrote for 58 in a 50 mph zone. It was late at nite leaving Lexington, KY on a new road out in the middle of no where. He claimed I was going 65+. I seen him and checked the speedo and it read 58. I assumed it was 55 since I had not seen a speed limit sign, it was a 4 lane DIVIDED highway and nothing around (can you say SPEED TRAP?)

I was driving my Hemi Orange `72 340 4 speed Challenger with air shocks and Mag wheels. This also might have had something to do with Barney.

Sent in an check to cover cost with letter explaining situation, they changed it to 55 in a 50.

2nd ticket was Stupid. I was driving north and needed to make a u turn to get to where I needed to go. I was driving a 77 Chevy 3/4 ton 4X4. The cop must have been tailgating me. Said I made unsafe lane movement and almost hit him. He was behind me and I was slowing. TOO THIS DAY I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT.

3rd ticket I was a a bar and took a friend for a ride on my motorcycle. We turned off US 40 to head back to the bar (no I wasn't drinking) and I ask her if she wanted to go FAST, and away we went. Red line in each gear 103 coming out of 3rd and started to slow down. We had parked the bike and was 1/2 way into the bar when Barney's brother pulls up mad as H*LL. Well he clocked me at 88 slowing down. 88 in a 55.

The reason he was so mad was the week before they had a couple killed on their motorcycle speeding just a few miles from there.

I will drive a few miles an hour over the speed limit now, but when in a hurry if the traffic is running, I run with them. Out by myself, 4~5 over on the interstate.

I set my cruise @40mph every morning going thru town by me so I do not have to worry about the "want to be a cop" pri*ks

I have had several warnings

Once in my `67 Barracuda Formula "S". I knew the speedo was off but didn't know how much. A state trooper was running 55 in the center lane, So I passed him with my speedo on 55. He stopped me 1/2 mile down the road and ask me what I was doing. I told him that I was driving 55 and didn't understand why he stopped me, and I would have to be crazy to pass him knowing I was speeding. I was lucky he didn't give me a ticket.

Same car on my way home from work on a busy 4 lane road. Had a city cop in this small town close to where I lived cross all 4 lanes of traffic and almost run the car behind me off the road as we were pulling over since a EMERGENCY VEHICLE was coming with lights and siren. It seems he was after ME. Stated wreckless driving for squealling my tires. Now this guy was in a parking lot across the street and claimed when I shifted to 2nd I was turning my tires over. I had come out of a side street and would have shifted about where he was at, BUT, I had just put the engine and trans in the car and the clutch was out of adjustment and wouldn't hold the motor. I think the fact that it was a 340 4 speed with LOUD exhaust, no front bumper and MAG wheels was more the reason.

My 1st car `67 Barracuda, 273 HIPO, loud exhaust, air shocks and MAG wheels. I went to school in a very small town. My cars have always been one that you couldn't hide in, can you imagine that?, (I should have thought more like Larry Bell) I was at the Dairy Queen (local hangout) and they had off duty cop there for security (to run the kids off) I parked the car and rapped the throttle. The cop came over and said my car was TOO LOUD. It had a crackle when the throttle was rapped (why else would I do it....LOL) He wrote me a ticket and said "If you don't get it fixed in X time I would have to go to court" Well it didn't make the Crackle before I unstalled tail pipes, so I took them off. A week later he was back at the DQ and I pulled in, Rapped the throttle and ask him if it was better, and low and behold he thought it was much better and wanted to know what I did. I told him I "TOOK THE TAIL PIPES OFF"

I was cleaning the windows of "1st car" at gas station in same small town. I had been there about 10 min and Bruce Johnson "Super PRI*K". He had taken off north on 13 as I pulled in the gas station. He then cam flying into the gas station and acussed me of DRAG RACING. I told him it wasn't me. He said it was and that I was racing a blue truck. At that time a friend drove by in his blue truck, I ask him "was it THAT Truck?" he said no and he must have been mistaken and it was another car JUST LIKE MINE. Now my `67 Cuda was mid night blue with black vinyl top (kind like LB hidding type) with BRIGHT WHITE TAIL. Not just a small amount of white, about 15" of the WHOLE rear of the car, (yes I did it, I liked the look on the `70 Challenger but couldn't remember how wide it was DUH) He siad he was sorry and off he went to harrass some other kid.

Damn........looks like I got STOPPED ALOT

Got two in 1968 for five over in a speed trap and when I checked on them with license bureau they didn't exist. Checked with the police dept that issued them and they had no record. That could be why they wanted cash on the spot.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh Youth!

Funny thing is, I certainly can't speak for you folks, but I haven't really slowed down THAT much.. .it just seems the police are more interested in stopping someone other than us 'more mature' folks....

Ya think?

Been 15 years + since my last ticket... not that I haven't been guilty... just last weekend was riding in a car doing 130.. and not on the dyno either!

I've been driving for 38 years......I've never had a speeding ticket. I have had two tickets in all that time...one for a minor accident that was my fault and one was given for supposedly not making a complete stop at a stop sign. I fought that one (would have been three points!) and the judge said she would change it so I would have no points but still had to pay the fine! I was driving my PT with the flames and the female officer was too busy looking at the flames instead of what I was actually doing. I think she thought she was stopping a teen!

I have about 10 speeding tickets in my life!!Most are local in town in 25 MPH zones (Most roads). Its usually in my truck in a hurry to get something for the job site!I have had a few traveling out of state in PA, MD, ME, NJ, I now have radar detectors in each car and after going to 6 hrs of driving school a few years ago, i've slowed down! No more then 10 MPH over limit on interstates! I don't know how they expect you to drive around my small rural town at 25 MPH?? (30,000 people)
