With Rebecca in the last 10 years we have been to 37 states and four other countries - Our trip to New Zealand and Australia was our "trip of a lifetime".We hope to visit the other 13 states finishing with Alaska and Hawaii within five years.

51 states including confusion. About 35 or 37 on the motorcycle but I have been in all 50. Delaware was the last one. I had been within miles of it many times but never had been there. England, Ireland twice, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rico, Panama, Columbia and I think I am forgetting one or two. I really want to see Italy and Scotland. Been to the Bahamas, too. This message has been edited by ed monahan on 04-26-2004 at 10:58 AM

Well, let's see... it's easier to just name the state I have not been to yet: South Carolina and North and South Dakota. I've been to everyplace else.Internationally, the list is long: Russia (5 visits), China 2 visits), Viet Nam, Cambodia,Thailand (6 visits), Nepal (lived there 4 years), India (6 visits), Kashmir, The Philippines, Guam, Malaysia, Indonesia (2 visits), Bangladesh, Angola (3 visits), Congo, Botswana (lived there 3.5 years), South Africa (8 visits), Mozambique, Senegal, Zimbabwe (4 visits), Sudan(lived there 18 months), Kenya (4 visits), Zambia, Papua New Guinea, Ukraine (2 visits), Lithuania, Mexico, Guatemala, Madagascar, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland, Egypt, Poland, Turkey, Italy, Germany (lived there 4 years), France (3 visits), Spain (lived there 3 years), Holland (6 visits), Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Czech Republic. I think that's about it. Some places I "visits" in the military, some while in the diplomatic corps on business. It's nice to be home now. 33 States..........haven't spent much time on the East Coast. Haven't been out of the country (except for a bit of Canada) anywhere and have no desire to do that.

Most of these were before I turned 30 years old.States: 27, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Virginia, Alabama, New Mexico, Nevada,Utah, Colorado, Maryland, Mass, Maine, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, Hawaii and District of Columbia (not really a state), LATE ADDITIONS I ALMOST FORGOT: California (duh, I live here) Washington and New Jersey. Countries: 15, Canada, Germany, France, Mexico, Nicaragua, Hong Kong, Somalia, Kenya, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Seychelles, Jamaica and Bahrain (United Arab Emirates). US Territories: 4, Puerto Rico, St.Thomas, St. Martin, and Guam

I'm tired of long flights and customs officials and bad water and eating stuff that is a mystery. I've had more diarrhea than I can count. But I will say that in many of the poorest places I've lived and worked, all most people want is peace and a chance to work and give their kids a better life. Really not so much different than what most Americans want.My children are grown, but they said they were tired of having an "internet dad" so I've decided to stay home for a few years. My wife is also in the foreign service and is currently posted in Mozambique. Not the ideal situation for sure, but this is what's often required in this line of work. The short answer? There's no place like home, but I wish my wife was here too!

Geno, I was thinking I was only in Ohio and KY on the railroad but then I remembered going to Denver as a kid on the train. 1953, I think. So that added Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and probably Nebraska (or Kansas) and Colorado. I also took the Durango to Silverton trip. Rode a train from San Francisco to Seattle so that added Cal, Ore. and Wash. So about 10 or 11. In Canada I have been in B. Col., Alberta, Sask., Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. I would like to take the train trip across Canada. I would like to see the 540 degree tunnel in the mountain. Bob Miller sure has been in a lot of countries. A lot of them I would not want to visit but a lot of them I would love to see. What was the most interesting place, Bob?

NEPAL for sure - Home of Mt Everest (just over 29,000 fett), which I saw in person from the summit of another nearby mountain called Gokyo RI (about 18,000 feet). In Africa, Europe and Latin America, the cultures are mostly westernized and Christian in their religious orientation. In Nepal they practice a mixture of the Hindu and Buddhist religions and their thought process is different (not better than ours, just different). The culture is 180 degrees from the west, so it really is interesting exploring the spectacular Himalayan mountains and the wonderful people. The Nepalese have a great sense of humor and are very accepting of outsiders. The Sherpas, who live in the Solu Kumbu (or Mt. Everest region - the Nepalese called Mt Everest, "Sagarmantha" which means "The place of the snows") are probably the heartiest people I've ever been around. The Nepalese traditional dress is also very colorful. And if you're so inclined, their home brew will make ya "stupid" in no time!!!

I used to have a motor home with one of those national maps on the back. It was made of individual state stickers, which you could add when you went to a new state. We had 48 states pasted on. Visited all but Washington and Alaska. We didn't take the motor home to Hawaii, but put the sticker on anyway, since we'd been there several times. As for countries, I been to The Bahamas, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Canada, England, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Sweden, and Norway.
