Had guests over for a New Years get together and the subject of the prowler came up (actually the get together was in the garage). They asked "why prowler ?" and I had no answer. So when they come over next time I will know. So if someone knows please tell us.
Thanks in advance.

Has to do with the design layout of the KAT. The car lays low to the ground and the A-arms make the car look like
it is looking for a prey.

Here is the "Prowler" meaning from the dictionary.

prowl
P

Pronunciation Key (proul)
v. prowled, prowl·ing, prowls
v. tr.

To roam through stealthily, as in search of prey or plunder: prowled the alleys of the city after dark.

v. intr.

To rove furtively or with predatory intent: cats prowling through the neighborhood.

n.

The act or an instance of prowling.

I thought I read somewhere that it was taken from a 50's Hot Rod club called the Prowlers for nostalgic reasons. Jeff

Quote from above: "Prowled the alleys of the city after dark."

That is where I got my screen name from,,,,as my father would say when seeing cats in the alley, "Son, those alley cats are Prowlers" So I always remembered that Prowlers were actually Alley Cats!

Pumpkin,

Probably the most inclusive question asked about the car? "Prowler" is a cool name..but...I've wondered often how the name was selected myself?

CJ....Thanks for offering to look into the the reason (hope there was a reason?) the car was named the name it has....??

JWD and Chromer.

From: The Prowler story on the main page....

November 1991

Pacifica's Tremont begins referring to the retro rod as "Prowler."

Maybe that's the guy that should be asked!

After a 5 year run the arena football team in Greensboro is closing shop.

Their name - the PROWLERS!

5 year run, Prowlers; sound familiar?

Interesting subject.

We should be thankful they came up with a cool name for our car! A lot of car comapanies use computers to calculate trendy names that are just wierd...or names that hint at quality (Integra/ integrity, Acura/ accurate, etc.)

Or what's worse...GM using classic nameplates for boring cars...The new GTO should LOOK like one!

Prior to my Prowler purchase I searched the net for anything that I could find on this incredible car. I printed everything I could find. I just looked back through those printouts and found a Prowler Time Line that I believe came from Carnuts.com. The following is an excerpt from it. 1991* November***Pacifica's Tremont begins referring to the retro rod as "Prowler" possibly influenced by seeing a plaque on a rod affiliated with one of the oldest car clubs exant, the "Prowlers from nearby San Diego. We'd like to think so anyway. **** I don't have the authors name nor do I know it to be fact. Just sharing what I've read along my Prowler way. Jeff
