Hello all,

Long time no talk. Does anyone have a VROD Harley? I have decided to keep the Prowler and addd to the stable. I found quite a few VROD's on Ebay, but not to familiar with the bike. Is there a big difference between the 2003 - 2004? How are they on gas? Would you use this bike as a commuter bike (one hour drive each way, but good traffic splitter in Cali?) Just looking for opinions......

Thanks.

My friend had one for about a month and dumped it. I've never
heard one or ridden one, but he said it didn't sound like a traditional V Twin and was uncomfortable to ride.

never ridden one... great bike though as far as what's inside it. Big difference from other Harleys, and a poor resale.

Thanks for the reply, also forgot to ask........

I have a commute that's around an hour and fifteen minutes, looking for a bike that I can split traffic with, and be comfortable on. I love to ride something with looks (hence owning a Kat) and something safe since wind in Cali can be brutal......a lot of people tell me that a BMW is the way to go?

"white lining"--spliting traffic, is dangerous, but all of us that ride have done it or still do. The BMW is a great ride, but with the cylinders hanging out each side might not be the bike of choice for squeezing between cars. I sold my bike a few months ago, but would get an H.D. Road King Classic , leather bags, if I got another one---slim profile, even with the bags.....JMO

My recomendation is either a Dyna Wide Glide or a Heritage Softail Classic. Both are smooth riding, look cool, and allow you to sit back in the saddle. Two buddies of mine bought the VRod just after they came out. Both dumped them after less than a month later. My bike of choice, however, is the retro looking Springer Softail with 12 inch ape hangers.BADDOG..

James ,

I have a 2003 two-tone (black&silver) 100th Anniversary ..It is a great bike ... you might want to buy the dvd that has the full story( Discovery Channel /Harley Davidson Birth of the V-Rod) on e-bay. one Big difference is that it had a water cooled motor.. okay on gas but it has a very small tank which it is not where you think it is,.. the tank is under the seat...
This year(04) they are offering lots of colors other than that they are all(02-04) the same.... Here in D/FW area this is the only bike besides sportster that you can buy under MSRP not sure why??? almost all other models they want 2 to 4K over msrp... and Todd is right on about the resale it is a bit weak compare to the other harleys... all and all I love mine.. I put 4 hours on it today with another prowler owner which has a v-rod also on a toy run.... E-mail me if you have any questions...

Following description from the back of DVD Box:

Take a ride to remember on the incredible journey that is Harley-Davidson: Birth of the V-Rod In 2001, Harley Davidson introduced its newest motorcycle, the V-Rod, a jaw dropping combination of drag-racing power and classic Harley design. But like all revolutionary advancements, the drive towards the unveiling of the V-Rod was not without its obstacles and roadblocks. Take a first-hand look alongside engineers and designers during the six years required to make the dream of the V-Rod a reality. Meet remarkable men like Harley Davidon Vice President of Styling, Willie G. Davidon. The grandson of the company's co-founder, Willie G.'s imprint has been on every motorcycle to roll out of Harley Davidson for more than the last three decades. It is his drive leading the passoniate men and women towards the V-Rod's creation. From initial sketches to clay molds and varying levels of prototypes, witness the precision, creativity and American Ingenuity that was required in order to make the V-Rod the perfect marriage of engineering and art. Beginning in Milwaukee, WI and racing along Germany's Autobahm towards it's breathtaking unveiling, Harley-Davidson: Birth of the V-Rod is and adventure almost as exciting as a ride on the V-Rod itself.

I used to work for a harley dealer and got to ride a few of the v rods big thing I noticed is that with my short legs it is hard to reach the foot controls and sit comfortable but the power range is awsome twist it and hold on really really tight

Here's my daily summer time ride. Light, narrow, and really cool. It's a '65 Bonneville.

Thanks for the replies all. Well I am on the hunt on Ebay, the VROD prices range from about $15 - 18K depending on upgrades. If anyone on POA has a bike they are looking to sell, I am looking to buy.

James, I have a 2003 V-Rod. It is an awesome bike. I have fatboy, also. The V-Rod is a high performance bike. You can get up to 100 in just a second. You can change out the pipes to make it sound more like a Harley, (V-Mod, Vance & Hines or Rinehart). The rack on the bike is more, it is like a chopper ride. It hugs the curve & road better than the other Harleys. You can also change out the seat for a more comfortable ride. You get about 130 miles on a tank of gas. I just came back from Wis. and Hal's H-D has a new 2003 100th two-tone for $16,600. You might even do better than that. I had my shipped from Wis. to Texas for $220.00. They are 2 things different between the 03's & 04's, On the 04's harley ratio the gear ratio on first gear and the black framed ones have a different style handlebar. Harley people get use to the water cooled engines. That is the future for the 2007 models. That's to all the new EPA emission controls. My sister worked for Harley designing the V-Rod. If you have any questions just e-mail me
